Last Call: 50% Off Virgin Atlantic Awards + Cheap Paid Tickets

Virgin Atlantic has revealed its Black Friday Sale, which includes attractive deals on both paid and award tickets. Today is your last day to take advantage of this deal.

Black Friday Sale: Half Off Virgin Atlantic Award Redemptions

Matching what British Airways offered last month, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has halved the price of award space on its own flights. The full amount of taxes and fees still apply, which is over $500 per direction between the USA and London if flying in business class.

Cabin Normal price Save 50% price
Economy Classic 25,000 12,500
Premium 45,000 22,500
Upper Class 95,000 47,500

Travel must be completed by 20 October 2021.

If you are short and need to top up your accounts, Virgin Atlantic will sell you points with a 50% bonus on purchases over 5,000 miles (pricing varies based upon how many points you buy). Virgin also adds a $25 “transition” fee to purchase miles.

The sale runs through 30 November 2020. If your flight is cancelled, Virgin Atlantic will rebook you at no charge on a different flight, as long as it is before 20 October 2021.

Revenue Tickets Also On Sale

From London, Upper Class (business class) tickets are on sale for £999 round-trip to all U.S. destinations. In the other direction, tickets are pricing at around $2,000 r/t. Economy class and premium economy class tickets are also on sale.

These tickets are billed as flexible, though overnight Virgin Atlantic removed general language on its U.S. website about what happens if you need to make voluntary changes to the ticket (please review the fare rules of your specific booking before clicking purchase).

Is It Worthwhile?

This sale is great news for me because I have dragged out reviewing the Virgin Atlantic A350-1000 until the Clubhouse re-opens in London. Generally, though, I find it difficult to justify using points, even at half off, when paid fares are this cheap.

Whether a deal is worthwhile is a subjective question dependent upon your individual situation and pricing, so just be sure to compare using miles versus dollars outright before issuing your ticket.

CONCLUSION

I never thought I’d see business class fares between London and the USA (let alone the West Coast) for £999 r/t. It’s a generous offer, even during the pandemic. Also spending fewer points (especially with the latest Delta devaluation) makes using points at least a more reasonable option now.

Will you be taking advantage of Virgin Atlantic’s Black Friday sale?

There is no 999 pound business class fare from west cost to london anywhere on the site for any date next year. Their press release is a scam and you should retract your article. Thanks!

No. From London to West Coast. As I mentioned, it is over $2K in the other direction.

Looking at LHR-ORD, I’ve played with multiple departure dates April to June 2021 for various lengths of stay ranging from 10-89 days, assuming there’s a hidden 90-day limit. I’m seeing nothing less than £1210-ish for a 12-day stay in April. Most fares for all other date/length combos in the £2500-2700 range and up. I ran about 30 or so different combos. Looks like the £999 fares are going to be the proverbial needles in a haystack unless you’re incredibly flexible with both departure date and length of stay, which isn’t likely for most anyone right now given COVID travel restrictions. Seems like a bit of an empty promise.

Holding a fare sale in the midst of a pandemic. Shame on Virgin Atlantic. People need to stay home until this is all sorted out. And if you do travel for “pleasure” then you need to be made to sign a waiver stating that you forgo all rights to medical care if you contract COVID-19.

The fuel surcharges and taxes pretty much destroy the value of this award sale in business class. If they dumped the YQ, there would be real value here but this just sounds like empty advertising.

I actually sow for 2 dates the 999 price out of LHR though one was i think April 03 LHR-LAX return was sometime end of September the other was similar but out LHR-LAX in Jan 2021 (did not book it Beau protested it we ain’t flying YYZ Toronto-LHR and then swing dramatically right Westward…even My argument: But its VIRGIN “dumb rear” did not make the slightest difference…so we ended up flying DTW Detroit-LAX for USD 21 each way …

You think the Clubhouse in LHR will re-open by then?
