Review: Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Boston (BOS)

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in Boston just closed and is undergoing renovation, but I still want to share about my recent visit and give you an idea of what to expect once it reopens.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Boston Review (BOS)

The Virgin Clubhouse is located in Terminal E at Boston Logan Airport and typically opens about 3.5 hours before a Virgin Atlantic departure. Across from Gate E11 is an elevator that will take you to a lower level where you will find the lounge.

Access is available to the following passengers:

  • Upper Class passengers on Virgin Atlantic
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold members traveling on Virgin Atlantic
  • Other SkyTeam Elite Plus members or SkyTeam business class passengers traveling on international itineraries
  • Capital One Venture X and American Express Platinum cardholders (via Plaza Premium, which operates the lounge)

The lounge lacks natural light and feels a bit of dungeon, but offers a comfortable array of seating divided into two areas: a dining area and sitting area.

I came the lounge hungry and took a seat at The Brasserie Restaurant, which offers an a la carte menu of food and beverages as well as a limited buffet. Rather than a printed menu, you went to the counter and could choose one of the freshly-prepared dishes, which included:

  • “Impossible Beef” burger
  • Chicken burger
  • Vegetable curry
  • Bowtie pasta with pesto.

I tried the “Impossible Burger” and found it to be lacking in taste, though the chips (or crisps as the Brits call them) were good.

Fresh salads were available too including a fruit salad, Mediterranean salad, and caprese salad. Brownies, crackers and cheese, and cold cuts were also available.

The self-serve buffet included soft drinks, juice, coffee, water, apples, plus sandwiches, cookies, and cheesecake.

The selection of alcoholic drinks was limited, though there seven beers to choose from and Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne. No cocktail menu, though the bartender had a good attitude and offered to do his best to accommodate any requests (though I passed).

This lounge has no showers (or spa area), but there are clean restrooms available.

CONCLUSION

While a far cry from the airy and spacious clubhouses in London or New York, the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in Boston was cozy and has great potential.  I greatly appreciate freshly-prepared dishes and look forward to this lounge reopening.

When this lounge does re-open, I will provide a fresh review directly over this one so we can compare whether the “remodeled” lounge is an upgrade or downgrade.

It’s possible that they might renovating it to increase capacity. With VS having joined ST and access for all STE+ pax, there will be a lot more traffic as it’s better than the AF lounge.

Would be nice if they merged space with the Delta Express Lounge located next door to create a large and posh lounge like in New York.

Delta is in the process of building a 22k sqf SkyClub in the new gates of terminal E that have yet to open at Boston. The skyteam lounge situation is going to be changing dramatically. Also as I understand it the Delta Express lounge is temporary until the new big lounge opens.

I’ve had the Impossible Burger at the IAD lounge, and also found it lacking. It doesn’t have much taste, and certainly doesn’t taste like a burger.

      Agreed.

Doubt they will re-open it. Delta are getting a huge new lounge in the E extension so I think they move there, along with the other Skyteam airlines. The area where the VS lounge is will be repurposed to increase immigration capacity

They’re not renovating, Sodexo is taking over for Plaza Premium here. There will be new lounge spaces in BOS with the Terminal E expansion, and I imagine some vacant old ones as some move to the new area, curious to see if Virgin makes a move then given how big of a SkyTeam presence there is at Terminal E.

So will we lose access with Cap One and AMEX?

My understanding is that for now, AMEX is fully gone, Capital One seems to still work but I’d imagine that may be changing soon

To clarify – this change to Sodexo is US Clubhouse-wide, not just BOS

It seems to me the Boston Virgin Atlantic Club Lounge just reopened about a year ago from renovations. Will Upper Class Virgin Passengers use another lounge, like Air France during reconstruction? I have 3 hours in Boston in June between flights in UP on Virgin to Heathrow.why do they do this during the busy peak spring-summer season, instead of winter.

      Probably to save money.

Yes, you can use Delta or Air France lounges.

      Unfortunately, not.

Which lounge are Virgin upper class passengers being directed to during this closure?

Delta Sky Club or Air France Lounge, since VS now part of SkyTeam.

If I have access to the Partner Premium network, Are there any options at BOS that I could use while the Virgin club is closed
