Woman On Delta Flight Brings Her Own Microphone To Go On COVID-19 Rant

A team of Delta Air Lines flight attendants had to subdue a woman who used a portable microphone and speakers to “preach” to her fellow passengers about COVID-19.

“TED” Talk: Woman Brings Her Own Microphone To Deliver Speech On Delta Flight

A woman dressed somewhat like a flight attendant stood up in the aisle on a late-night Delta flight to New York, connected her portable microphone to speakers, and announced to the plane that she was going to explain the origins of COVID-19.

Flight attendants quickly interceded, telling the woman to sit down and be quiet. When she refused, one flight attendant went to the back of the aircraft to get handcuffs, which enraged the woman. She was able to resist the handcuffs, but was led to the back of the aircraft by two flight attendants and a male passenger.

She never really got into her speech.

Video of the incident was posted by a musician on TikTok who claimed he connected to wi-fi just to stream what was going on, further suggesting the woman had been disruptive even before the cameras began rolling.

Popular comments on TikTok included:

She really thought she was gonna do a TED talk during the flight.

Portable mics are about to banned from carry-on bags!

That no fly list gone be long long it’ll look like a CVS receipt.

(to those outside the USA, the CVS drug store chain dispenses laughably long receipts, even if you are just buying a candy bar)

A Delta spokesperson told Paddle Your Own Kanoo:

“The safety of our customers and employees are always our top priority. We are aware of the video and appreciate the swift thinking of our flight crew who actioned their extensive training to safely deescalate the situation. The flight continued to JFK and landed on-time without incident.”

CONCLUSION

What an odd incident. Regardless of her message, kudos to the flight attendants for keeping control and promptly shutting her down. To those who feel the need to vocally express their viewpoints to others: an airplane is not the right venue.

Microphones don’t annoy people. Speakers (electonic and otherwise) annoy people.
She brought a portable speaker on board.
A technicality illustrative of current technical ignorance.

I would have grabbed the mike just to say, “hey, good lookin’, we’ll be back to pick you up later.”

I would have enjoyed hearing her theory on the origin of COVID-19.

This reminds me of being in college 1988. One time the republican caucus showed up to meet in a campus building, and it was next to the dorm so I just walked over to catch a view of the politicians. Well, professional protestors showed up with a sound system that was considerably louder than a megaphone, and they started shouting much-amplified slogans about Nicaragua or whatnot. It was so loud that it hurt your ears, and must have violated noise regulations.
