Review: Aeromexico Terraza Premier Lounge Mexico City (MEX)

The Aeromexico Terraza Premier Lounge, in cooperation with Heineken, is a small lounge in Mexico City Airport (MEX) with a limited selection of free food and drinks and an a la carte menu with additional food and drinks for purchase.

Aeromexico Terraza Premier Lounge Review (MEX – T2)

Aeromexico has a trio of lounges in Terminal 2 of Benito Juárez International Airport. All are both SkyTeam and Priority Pass lounges. This particular lounge is located near Gate B (near a walkway for gates 75-81) and is open daily from 5:30 am to 9:00 pm.

To enter with SkyTeam credentials, you need to fly in business or class or hold SkyTeam Elite Plus status and be flying on an international itinerary. Since I was just flying on a national flight (to Tijuana), I had to use my Priority Pass card rather than my SAS Eurobonus Gold card for access.

The lounge is quite small and the Heineken branding is everywhere…look at the bottles above the bar…there were also Heineken signs throughout the lounge…I wonder how much Heineken pays for this? The lounge was fairly crowded, so I did not take many pictures.

In terms of food and drinks, the lounge has a hybrid concept with a limited selection of free food and drinks and then an additional menu with food and alcohol for purchase.

The “free” food included sandwiches, pizza, tortilla soup, and vegetables with dip.

Free alcohol included soft drinks, coffee, tea, wine, beer, and a variety of spirits:

The coffee from Café Punta del Cielo was respectable and I appreciated the bairsta coffee service. My cortado was not bad at all.

In addition to the free food and drinks, the following menu was offered:

Premium drinks and cocktails were also available for purchase, though I found no menu:

a bar with bottles of alcohol

Augustine was hungry and wanted a burger and French Fries (how sad he takes after his dad in this respect), so I ordered him one…but it took 25 minutes to be served and by that time we were totally out of time and had to take it to go.

He did enjoy it onboard our flight to Tijuana, but it was not worth the 280 MXN…almost 15 USD.

I tried the tortilla soup while we were waiting and it was certainly missing chicken!

The bathrooms in the lounge were small and there were no showers:

a bathroom with a mirror and a sink

I wanted to try this lounge since I always go to the Salon Premier, but will return to the larger lounge next time.

This lounge was perfectly acceptable and I enjoyed the cup of coffee, but it’s still an underwhelming lounge for the hub of a global carrier and the a la carte pricing should be halved.

Heineken has the rights to brew Tecate and Dos Equis in Mexico along with a few other brands. So they are trying to promote the main Heineken brand to the locals as a step up from their familiar brands as it’s a higher margin item.

In Europe , Heineken is considered sub-par .

Heineken purchased the entirety of Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma in 2010 and so own that breweries brands globally.

      Brands include:
      Bohemia
      Carta Blanca
      Dos Equis
      Indio
      Sol
      Superior
      Tecate

About that same time, Mexico’s other big brewing conglomerate, Grupo Modelo, was purchased by AB-InBev, but that deal was far more complicated, especially in the US.

Are all the a la carte items served that way (to go) or did you have to request it?

No, they are generally served nicely plated but we asked it be wrapped to go because it took so long to make.

I hope you enjoyed your ‘national’ flight. In land flights don’t take very long. Indeed, on a poor product, my preference is an internal flight. I’m done here; my partner is calling for me to return to my domestic duties.

The tortilla soup never includes chicken, it’s not common in Mexico. You can put some avocado dices and chicharron (pork skin) to the soup for elevate the flavor.

FYI … All of the Aeromexico lounges at Mexico City have an a la carte menu. It’s disappointing, especially for business-class passengers, when compared to international lounge norms.

      Very disappointing.
