After being mismanaged for years, the next exciting chapter of Air India is unfolding. But in the meantime, some remnants of the “old” carrier remain. Air India passengers on one flight, operated by a relatively new Boeing 787-8 aircraft, were treated to an onboard shower in economy class and I cannot imagine it was a welcome one.
It Rains, It Pours: Shower Onboard Air India 787 In Economy Class
Emirates is famous for its onboard shower in first class on the A380, something I have enjoyed before and hope to enjoy again. Etihad also has a shower onboard its A380. It appears that, on occasion, Air India offers a similar amenity to its economy class passengers…

The video below was filmed on a flight from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport (ATQ) in Amritsar on November 24, 2023. Amritsar is the second-largest city in the Indian state of Punjab.
Air India ….

I love the comment with the video:
“Air India …. fly with us – it’s not a trip … it’s an immersive experience”
Air India bristled at the suggestion that there was something wrong with the aircraft, blaming the issue on condensation:
“Flight AI169 operating from Gatwick to Amritsar on 24th November 2023 had developed a rare occurrence of condensation adjustment inside the cabin. Some of our guests seated in the affected rows were promptly relocated to other vacant seats and given the circumstances, the cabin crew made every effort to make the guests comfortable. Air India is committed to the safety and comfort of guests on board and we regret this unexpected incident.”
This is similar to an issue I had on a Lufthansa A380 in economy class a few years back, though much more dramatic here. While I am not a Boeing aircraft mechanic, it seems to me that there should be drainage systems in place, just as there are at home, for condensation that forms from air conditioning units.

It seems this shower was not part of Air India’s Maharaja service.
CONCLUSION
Passengers encountered an unexpected shower on their Air India flight from London, which the airline has called a “rare occurrence.” When I flew Air India earlier this year on the same aircraft I had no such experience.
In all seriousness, I am quite excited to see the transformation of Air India taking place and hope to try out a longhaul on a new Air India A350-900 in due course.

But if there was a real shower onboard, would it accommodate all of those blameless passengers of gargantuan mass?
Feels like you are trying to make fun of the passengers for no reason??? Also, it doesn’t make any sense as there are no such passengers. Even if there were, what’s it to you?
For f*cks sake, no need to be such an a**.
Don’t like it? Don’t read it.
Much ado and manufactured drama over nothing. Condensation happens, this is nothing particularly unusual. I’ve seen it and experienced it more than once on flights in very hot/humid locations (I’m surprised you haven’t).
Just keep your mouth closed when it happens, and enjoy the temporary refreshing cooldown – in a few seconds, you’ll wish there was more spritzing.
Nothing beats the travel comfort of 9-seats across a 787 while relaxing by the sound of water cascading down overhead bins.
To be fair, this could happen on any airplane and airline, and it has on others, but the fact that this is Air India, which is in the early innings of a transformation that comes with very high hurdles to clear, this is not a great look.
Is that Jennifer Aniston I see?
LOT have the same problem on one of their oldest 787-8, SP-LRE. Pax seated at 8A are soaked.
The aircraft is plagued with faults so it’s known as “Romeo Error”
I’ve seen this happen on multiple international airlines, including on new aircraft from US carriers. It sucks and this is definitely above usual for condensation but sometimes water condenses and then spills out. The 787 line does seem to experience this a bit more than others though!
All part of the package. A real shower after the complimentary golden shower (too bad not by Russian babes). What a shithole country.
Waiting for Loretta Jackson to somehow make this the cabin crews fault.
Is this part of their new brand standard for longhaul flights? You just need some curtains around that area and it becomes a locker room shower.
If they had a real shower, I don’t think the plane would take off as they would need more water than MTOW to accommodate.
