I am switching gears for my next trip report, pivoting away from flying and writing about a wonderful train trip I enjoyed with my wife in 2016 from Los Angeles to Glacier National Park in Montana.
Whenever I publish a trip report more than a year old, I always preface it with this disclaimer: do not worry – little has changed. I would not publish it if my onboard experience will not match what you can expect today.
Taking a sleeper car on a long-distance Amtrak train has always been a bucket list item of mine. I finally had the chance thanks to the now-defunct relationship between Amtrak Guest Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.
For just 25,000 point I secured a bedroom for the ~48 journey, which included three meals per day and lounge access. The trip report will include four parts:
- Amtrak Lounge Los Angeles
- Amtrak Cost Starlight – Sleeping Car
- Amtrak Lounge Portland
- Amtrak Empire Builder – Sleeping Car
Not only did my wife and I enjoy the journey, we enjoyed a great few days of hiking in Glacier National Park before flying home on Alaska Airlines.
Stay tuned, the trip report begins tomorrow. My backlog of old trip reports is almost empty. By the end of the year all “classic” trip reports will have been published.
Very cool! I like this
Nice change – looking forward to this!
Awesome. I’ve taken the California Zepher and Capitol Limited with roomettes and loved it. Look forward to it.
Loved ur writing style. I’ve used Amtrak bedrooms LA to Chicago, but have never taken the trip you describe; on my bucket list
