Several babies have now been born on Afghan flights as part of rescue missions bringing some of the brightest news in a dark situation.

Baby “Reach” is Born

It was August 27th when an Afghan mother began labor. She was one of hundreds of Afghan evacuees who had departed Hamid Karzai International (Kabul) Airport aboard a US Air Force C-17 headed for safety. To aid the mother, the pilots pre-emptively entered a lower altitude with improved air pressure before landing at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. That adept move was said to have saved the mother’s life.

Upon landing, with labor well in progress, a contingent from the 86th Medical Group boarded the plane and moved the mother to a nearby cargo bay:

“By the time they reached her, the woman had been “past the point of no return,” she said. “That baby was going to be delivered before we could possibly transfer her to another facility.” – New York Times

The assigned call sign of the Air Mobility Command aircraft was “Reach” and so the baby girl was named, the mother told reporters.

Two other children were reported to have been delivered following other evacuation flights.

“Havva” Delivered on Turkish Airlines Rescue Flight

Operations continue to evacuate personnel and allies from Afghanistan. On a Turkish Airlines-operated flight yesterday from Dubai to Birmingham, labor occurred mid-flight. Fortunately, flight attendants were able to deliver the baby despite a lack of medical personnel on board.

Both the mother and child were reported to be in good condition. The Daily Mail has footage of the family after the mother gave birth over Kuwaiti air space. Well done to the mother and the Turkish Airlines crew who helped them.

Bright Spot in a Dark Situation

In perhaps the best possible outcome for those families and the children themselves, they will never know the horror that their familial homeland is going through right now. While it is heartbreaking that these children had to be delivered in the sky, their situation was and remains undoubtedly better now than it would if they found themselves under Taliban rule or perils of war.

For the families and for the world who is watching, their safe births miles above the surface of the Earth is a little bit of joy to combat the immense heartbreak and sorrow they escaped.

Conclusion

What’s happened in Afghanistan is heartbreaking and tragic, but to see a baby born in flight bring joy to the parents, crew, and passengers is a ray of hope. I hope and pray that babies Reach, Havva, and the others live long and happy lives wherever home may now be. Hats off to the crews, service people, and passengers that assisted.

So sad that they didn’t get Alaska Airlines Mileage plan credit for the flights. Unfair. Discrimination because of their income and race. They should sue. They are entitled to $1 million, paid for by the rich.

Great… what we need more of … a new generation of entitled indoctrinated PC “asylum citizens” on the governments payroll paid by my paycheck. A new generation every 16 years born. Will we ever wise up! Take down the Staue of Liberty!!

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
