Great Coffee In Colorado Springs

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 10, 2024January 10, 2024 7 Comments

I travel to Colorado Springs multiple times per year because it is the home of Boarding Area, the host of this blog. Over the years I have found many great coffee shops here: it’s a city with a great coffee culture.

Best Coffee In Colorado Springs

In my many visits since Live And Let’s Fly moved to Boarding Area in 2016, I have tried out just about every coffee shop in town. Let’s start with my favorite.

Story Coffee Company
120 East Bijou Street
Colorado Springs, CO, 80903
(503) 758-4444
6:00 am – 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday)
7:00 am – 5:00 pm (Saturday, Sunday)

This is the cutest little place located in a little 120-square-foot structure on Bijou Street next to Acacia Park.

The staff are friendly and the cappuccinos are excellent.

My second-favorite coffee is Switchback.

Switchback Coffee Roasters – Shooks Run
330 North Institute Street
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
(719) 345-2807
6:30 am – 3:00 pm (daily)

This place is a bit outside the center of the city, but the coffee is worth the drive. Lovely cortados and cappuccinos here. It now closes at 3:00 pm so get your coffee early!

Loyal Coffee
408 South Nevada Avenue
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
6:00 am – 6:00 pm (daily)

This cafe has a large dining room and great cortados and cappuccinos. The staff are very kind here: I had a nice chat about frothing milk on my last visit!

The Wild Goose Meeting House
401 North Tejon Street
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
8:00 am – 8:00 pm (Monday – Thursday)
8:00 am – 11:00 pm (Friday)
9:00 am – 11:00 pm (Saturday)
9:00 am – 7:00 pm (Sunday)

Not only is the coffee great here, but the sandwiches are as well. The wild goose panini (chicken – ham – provolone – cream cheese – mustard – gooseberry relish – sourdough levain) is highly recommended.

Gift Horse Café (Inside The Well)
315 East Pikes Peak Avenue, Suite 100
Colorado Springs, CO 80903
(719) 401-3726
8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Tuesday – Sunday)
Closed Monday

The Well is an interesting concept (“The Well is built and backed by five non-profit foundations within the Philanthropy Collective. Our mission is to assist up-and-coming restaurateurs in establishing a presence in the Colorado Springs food scene.”). The coffee is also good and I like supporting this kind of business.

Finally, I hate to be negative, but I tried The Perk Downtown and did not care for the coffee…

CONCLUSION

Colorado Springs is full of great coffee choices…I love a city that takes coffee seriously and you have many great alternatives for delicious coffee. And most heartening to a coffee snob like me was to see Loyal Coffee business than Starbucks located right down the street!

Hey Matthew, might the folks at BoardingArea (and/or yourself!) be up for a chat sometime if I’m hoping to know more about the history and evolution of both miles & points programs (it’s hard to find definitive things online before the early 2010s) and the blogs that covered them? I’m considering writing a book about that time period as a passion project but don’t currently have enough contacts to be sure about details before 2015 or so (when I started reading about and utilising award travel for myself).

LMK by email if that sounds like a reasonable request!

What is your coffee setup at home, expresso machine, some form of pour over or French press?

I would have bought that one had it been available when I bought my current one. Back then, only the linea mini was available…which I love but the $5900 was a bit too much at the time.

Did you find this place better than the freshly roasted coffee beans at Loyal?
