Norman Love Confections
One of the tastiest places you can find in Fort Myers is a premium chocolate shop with a clever name. Norman Love Confections offers high-quality, premium chocolate boxes for those who want to convey their love with sweetness. Self-love is important too, however, and there’s no better way to take care of yourself than eating an entire box from Norman in a single evening… or so I have heard.
Beyond chocolate boxes, the chocolatier offers cakes and pies as well in boxes so clever that they include ice packs to ensure they don’t melt in the hot Florida sun.
Norman Love Confections has many locations throughout the Fort Myers area.
The Bubble Room
Near the marina on Captiva island is the incredibly famous Bubble Room. This overly campy themed restaurant serves a variety of meals but they are best known for their delicious and oversized desserts. A single slice of red velvet has been known to feed an entire family.
Staff is dressed in scouting uniforms and the atmosphere is a fun throw-back to a bygone era. It’s an awfully love drive from central Fort Myers all the way out to Sanibel and then Captiva, but dessert lovers will happily make the scenic drive. A walk along the beach after a trip to the Bubble Room is recommended, and some of the best beaches in the country with extensive shelling are just half a block away from its front door.
Love Boat Ice Cream
If you’re looking for a life-changing ice cream experience, Love Boat is the spot. It’s recently moved locations a little closer to Fort Myers Beach (though a couple of miles away from the water) to a spot that’s got far more parking, and selection than its previous location. That said, expect a wait during high season or spring break.
Love Boat has close to 100 different flavors that include classics like Cookies and Cream and Rocky Road, or fun creations like birthday cake that features chunks of cake funfetti cake and icing throughout. All ice creams and waffle cones (for which they have more than a dozen varieties) are made in-house from scratch. They also offer a selection of sorbets and lactose-free options.
Love Boat is such a legend that most of the area restaurants carry a few different varieties to serve with desserts, but those are a poor substitute for the real deal.
Heavenly Biscuits
I love cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls – anything with gluten and sugar. One of the best in the country is the Sinful Cinnamon Roll with vanilla icing from Heavenly Biscuits. It’s big, it’s delicious, and it’s all the calories a grown man can tolerate for an entire day in one “breakfast” pastry. It might be the best way to spend $3.30 anywhere on earth.
The pecan roll is also a can’t miss pastry.
Gulf Coast Fudge
For those staying near or visiting the River District (Downtown Fort Myers), seek out Gulf Coast Fudge. The chocolate is great, but their milkshakes are the show stopper as they empty nearly the entire store into the glass.
Gulf Coast Fudge is tucked away on a side street in the busy entertainment district but it’s worth seeking out. Try the white chocolate, it’s delicious.
What do you think? Have you tried any of these spots? Which is your favorite?
Bubble room was where we went when I was growing up. Every trip to Sanibel and Captiva….
What’s your opinion of Restoratives’ Cafe cinnamon rolls?
