A dunk passenger who had passed out on a domestic flight in Brazil startled those attending to him by violently kicking the seats in front of him after being awakened.
Drunk Passenger Destroys Airplane Seats After Being Awakened From Alcohol Coma
The incident occurred on GOL Airlines flight 1556, traveling from São Paulo (CGH) to Recife (REC) on Sunday, August 14, 2022. The 34-year-old man, described as a street vendor, was drunk and had passed out for about 30 minutes of the three hour flight.
A passenger seated nearby later explained:e
“The he started feeling sick, passed out and (was) foaming at the mouth.”
(kind of makes you wonder about the passenger as well, if nothing was said about the sick passenger…)
As the plane approached Recife, he did not wake up.
Flight attendants onboard asked if there were any doctors onboard and three stepped up. They determined that he was facing alcohol coma and elected to administer glucose (which is traditionally used to treat low blood sugar).
That woke him up. If fact, it woke him up in time to notice a needle in his side, causing him to freak out. Mobile phone video shows the man violently kicking (with his bare feet) the seat in front of him. In the process, one tray table was destroyed and two seats required maintenance work.
GOL did not have much to say about the incident:
“All actions and procedures adopted by the company were taken with a focus on the safety of stewards and customers.”
Police, meanwhile, were summoned, arrested him, and he now faces 2-5 years in jail for his outburst.
CONCLUSION
The circumstances surrounding what caused the passenger to become drunk are not clear. While I would always be concerned if I woke up from a nap and found a needle in my arm, I would hope my reaction would not be to to destroy the seats in front of me.

Nothing like a few years in a Brazilian prison to figure out your life.
Lots of strange and sick people. Drug abuse, alcohol, people mixing sleeping tablets with alcohol, etc.
Once I was on a nearly empty flight years ago. Like 35 people on the plane. This lady came on late and was pretty confused. As she walked down the aisle I saw the GA watching her and then telling the FA, she can’t flight on the flight.
In most cases the lady probably would have fallen asleep and not caused any trouble but if there was an emergency or something else happened, it would have been a mess so she did the right thing to remove the lady. Unfortunately people can’t seem to control themselves with alcohol and drugs and always things they can handle it.
And yeah, seeing a needle in your arm would freak out people, especially if they are already in a strange state of mind. Not sure why being a street vendor is important. Makes it sound like you expect this more from someone like this but I think we’ve seen things like this happen with people from all walks of life.
I understand a needle in your arm would freak him out, but still, it doesn’t warrant you to destroy a plane seat. Hopefully people learn from this.
This guy needs serious mental help…instead he will be placed in one of the most mentally traumatizing situations on earth.
Are you sure this is not a Spirit/Frontier flight disguised as ‘GOL’?
Just your typical brazilian.
Brazil is a nation of subhumans.
Vai tomar no olho do seu cú, seu filho da puta arrombado! Vá com a puta que te pariu para a casa do caralho, seu merda!
PD: Just a small polite greeting in portuguese for this brainless Koggerj/Debit. Even though english is difficult for him and another language must be impossible…Best regards.
Can’t comprehend Portuguese but I saw “puta” in there and that’s all I needed to know about the conext of this, no google translate required. lol
HI Jan. Not always, don’t get confused, “puta” can also be used in informal Portuguese as a positive expression, especially for someone born in São Paulo. For example, “puta trabalho” could mean a “good job”. “puta estádio” could be a “huge stadium”, “puta time” can be a “wonderful team”, etc..
Well, but is true. In this case there is nothing positive about Koggerj/Debit.
at the end of the day I sleep soundly knowing that while I may be a lot of things at least i don’t have brazillian blood flowing through my veins.
“The circumstances surrounding what caused the passenger to become drunk are not clear”
If I had to get on a Gol Flight for 3h 10m, I’m pretty sure I’d be getting drunk beforehand too. Hell, I usually require a few pops before I board Gol flights of much shorter lengths. I would; however, do my best to not destroy anything.
You see that leather phone holster on the dude with the black shirt?
I wouldn’t mess with a guy like that.
Re: “alcohol coma and elected to administer glucose (which is traditionally used to treat low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)”, correct that glucose is used to treat low blood sugar, high blood alcohol levels can cause hypoglycemia.
Re: “a needle in his side, causing him to freak out”, implies a cause and effect relationship where it does not exist, that he freaked out BECAUSE of the needle in his side. He could have “freaked out” for 1,000 different reasons. Most other causes of confusion are gradual in onset and non-violent, post-ictal and post-syncope confusion are relatively brief and usually much less violent. Most likely he was intoxicated.
Good to see the police at the end of the video to arrest him because most likely he was intoxicated. He should go to jail, he most likely CHOSE to be drunk and it’s inappropriate to avoid consequences due to being drunk.
Traditional medical education: “When you hear the sound of thundering hoofbeats, don’t think of zebras.” “If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and flies like a duck, it’s probably a duck.” (ER docs get paid to prove it’s not a zebra or a Rufous-Headed Hornbill.)
2. Drink min in economy only.
OMG! With that kind of reaction, I wonder if he wasn’t “crossfading” on something else in addition to plain old EtOH?
Jerk! He caused hundreds if not thousands of dollars of damage to the airplane, let alone the schedule disruption and delayed/stranded pax due to a plane inoperable in that condition.
At least he kicked the seat and not the window! (Could a passenger kick out a window in a plane like that?)
So they don’t jail people in Brazil for being like this, or do they?
Looks like the guy version of “The Exorcist.” (a movie from the ’70s).
