Frontier Airlines is finally adding inflight Wi-Fi, and rather than starting with an outdated system, the ultra-low-cost carrier is jumping straight to Starlink. The airline has not yet said whether passengers will have to pay for it.
Frontier Airlines Is Getting Starlink Wi-Fi In 2027
Frontier Airlines has announced that it will begin installing SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet, with the first equipped aircraft expected to enter service in early 2027.
This will represent a dramatic improvement for Frontier passengers because the airline currently offers no inflight internet at all…Frontier will leap directly from no Wi-Fi to what is arguably the best system currently available.
Starlink uses a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit to provide fast, low-latency internet that can support streaming, video calls, online gaming, and ordinary work without the painful loading times associated with many older inflight systems. Frontier says connectivity will be available gate-to-gate and will also support pilots, flight attendants, maintenance personnel, and ground operations.

Frontier Joins A Much Larger Starlink Deal
The Frontier installation is part of a much broader commitment by airlines associated with Indigo Partners.
Frontier, Wizz Air, Volaris, JetSMART, and Cebu Pacific collectively plan to install Starlink on more than 1,000 aircraft. That makes this one of the largest inflight-connectivity commitments announced to date.
Frontier says it will become the first U.S. airline to offer passengers Starlink through a new system managed directly by Starlink, though it did not provide much detail about what distinguishes that arrangement from existing installations.
Frontier CEO Jimmy Dempsey framed Starlink as part of the airline’s broader effort to improve its product:
“We’re continuing to invest in the products and services that matter most to our customers. Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey.”
He also pointed to Frontier’s planned First Class seating and loyalty-program enhancements as evidence that the airline is attempting to improve the passenger experience without abandoning its low-fare model.
Frontier still sells very cheap base fares and charges separately for many extras, but it is also trying to attract travelers who might previously have dismissed the carrier because of its stripped-down product.
Reliable Wi-Fi removes one significant reason to avoid Frontier, particularly for business travelers or anyone who needs to remain connected during a flight.
Will Frontier Charge For Starlink?
Frontier has not yet said whether Starlink will be complimentary or paid.
I asked the airline directly whether it had pricing to announce and whether it could confirm if access would be free or paid, as we have recently seen with Copa Airlines.
A Frontier spokesperson told Live And Let’s Fly:
“Thanks for reaching out. Regarding your question, more to come on that. At the moment I can only offer that Starlink will provide reliable, high-speed connectivity onboard, while Frontier maintains our commitment to offering low fares.”
That carefully worded response leaves the door open to paid access.
Frontier’s business model is built around low base fares and charging separately for optional products, so it would not be surprising to see Starlink bundled with certain fares, elite status, or the Frontier Airlines credit card while other passengers pay.
In fact, I cannot imagine a scenario in which Wi-Fi would be free…it just doesn’t work with the business model. But for now, the airline is promising fast connectivity, not free connectivity.
CONCLUSION
Frontier Airlines will begin flying Starlink-equipped aircraft in early 2027, moving directly from no inflight Wi-Fi to one of the fastest and most reliable systems available.
Whether that Wi-Fi will be free remains unanswered. Frontier says more details are coming, but its emphasis on maintaining low fares suggests paid access remains very much possible.
Even so, this represents a meaningful improvement. Between Starlink, new premium seating, and an enhanced loyalty program, Frontier is making a serious effort to become more attractive without ceasing to be Frontier.

All airlines should have some form of WiFi. It’s 2026; the technology is there. If some, like Frontier, wanna be cheap about it, I guess that’s their brand. Personally, I think, if you’re gonna offer no IFE, at the very least, keep your passengers occupied with some ‘included’ WiFi, but, then again, I don’t run their business, so…
