Who Is That Passenger Giggling Like A Child In Seat 7L? Me…

If you were on United Airlines flight 1139 and you heard this guy in seat 7L giggling uncontrollably, I must apologize: it was me. You’ll have to blame Jon Hamm.

Giggling Like Crazy In United Airlines Business Class Thanks To Great Movie

I knew I was being loud when the girl sitting behind me looked over her suite and asked me what was so funny. I told her that I could not recall a funnier movie than Confess, Fletch and recommended she watch it too. Soon, she was laughing too.

But let’s start at the beginning.

After stepping off my 16-hour flight from Johannesburg quite well-rested and clearing passport control, I walked over to the Polaris Lounge for a shower followed by some juice and coffee. I recently provided an updated review of United’s flagship Newark lounge and won’t do so again here, other than to say that I find Polaris Lounges a tremendous selling point for flying on United metal, since you can use them on arrival.

I meandered over to my gate and was among the last to board my flight to Denver.

United Airlines 1139
Newark (EWR) – Denver (DEN)
Saturday, December 10
Depart: 10:00 AM
Arrive: 12:19 PM
Duration: 4hr, 19min
Distance: 1,605 miles
Aircraft: Boeing 787-9
Seat: 7L (Business Class)

Unlike my flight from Johannesburg on the same aircraft type, this aircraft appeared to be in better condition. My seat was not at all worn.

After takeoff, lunch orders were taken and I was offered a tofu dish or a chicken breast. Instead, I asked for a cheeseburger from the economy class buy-on-board menu and was obliged. Yes, I’m a man of simple tastes and my lack of refinement when it comes to eating is something I do confess.

I mentioned it briefly here, but since my work was done and I was well-rested, I decided to watch a movie, and chose Confess, Fletch, starring Jon Hamm (amongst a great cast of characters).

Oh.

My.

Goodness.

I could not stop laughing. There was something about the deadpan humor of Hamm that just made me laugh…and laugh…and laugh. To the point that others were looking at me, probably wondering if I was sober (though I had not touched any alcohol).

I’ve never watched Mad Men, so my only introduction to Hamm was his minor role in the latest Top Gun movie.

Apparently this Fletch movie was a remake of a 1980s original starring Chevy Chase, which I still have yet to see (but I will).

I’ve always maintained that Airplane! is the funniest movie of all time (The Birdcage too), but I have to admit that I’m reevaluating that now…

The views out the window weren’t bad either, including views of Manhattan on takeoff and a beautiful clear day in Denver.

The only odd part about the flight? One of the flight attendants rushed off with passengers even though we arrived early. Apparently she had a non-rev flight home to catch…

CONCLUSION

I do apologize if I disturbed you, but laughing is one of the joys of life. An airplane is the only venue I will watch a movie and I cannot recall ever laughing so hard. If you haven’t seen Confess, Fletch, I recommend it.

Was she deadheading to work another trip. And late?? Don’t be a “bus driver” too.

The original Fletch movie with Chevy Chase is a classic. There was a sequel as well. The Fletch character is from a series of books so this is just another Fletch movie rather than remake.

I haven’t watched the latest one. Fletch is a classic, we still try to charge our room expenses to the Underhills. Don’t waste your time with Fletch Lives

If you don’t mind violence and language, Bullet Train with Brad Pitt is hilarious.

Interestingly, I saw it and didn’t care for it all that much. I do like Brad Pitt, but I have never liked his comedic roles.

Hilarious film! I watched it a theater and again on a Delta flight.
