I was hoping for a “superfecta” or “quadfecta” and experienced exactly that as I stepped onboard my final Hong Kong Airlines flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. Four flights. Four different business class configurations!
We all have different considerations when we fly. One of my top considerations is to try as many new products as possible. This latest trip to Hong Kong allowed me to sample two different A350 and two different A330 configurations on Hong Kong Airlines! While this is primarily for review reasons on this blog, I also love trying new airline products just for the sake of it.
My aircraft on the flight back to Los Angeles was the first and only (so far) aircraft delivered with new reverse herringbone seating onboard. Not only is the cabin much more visually appealing than the older, darker cabin, but the seats are more spacious.
In terms of sleep, I would not say I slept any better on this flight than the flight to Hong Kong with the “older” business class seats. I can sleep well in just about any lie-flat bed, even United’s eight-across business class on its 777-200s.
Service was also not as personal or polished on this flight, though it was by no means poor. Food was excellent, including a fabulous chicken dish with gnocchi after takeoff and a warm breakfast prior to landing in LA.
Once again, I slept for almost the entire flight.
Next week I will start the brief trip report, which will include a detailed review of the four flights and a review of the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong. After four flights in business class under my belt, I can highly recommend the airline for travel to Hong Kong and beyond.
