It became almost cliché among the “mileage run generation” (may that era rest in peace), but even several years later there is nothing like an In-N-Out burger at LAX after a trip.
When I arrived back home last Thursday, I was hungry. I turned down a hamburger onboard United, not something I usually do, because I wanted my favorite cheeseburger instead (and frankly, because such food would not fly in my wife’s healthy kitchen so I have to take advantage of the opportunity when it arises).
But with the demise of the “free” Parking Spot shuttle to In-N-Out, I now make myself a deal: if I am going to eat an unhealthy snack, especially late at night, I will earn it by walking there.
It’s no easy walk from United’s Terminal 8. It requires going downstairs, crossing the street through the parking structures, around short-term parking, then several blocks down Sepulveda Boulevard. It’s a good 20-25 minute walk.
No matter the time of day, In-N-Out is always crowded (it is open until 1:30a). Expect at least a 10-minute wait for your food at all times.
If I am hungry, I’ll always order the same thing: a Double-Double (two hamburger patties with cheese), a cheeseburger, and French Fries.
For comparison purposes, the BOB hamburger on United is $9.99. My meal cost less.
In-N-Out never disappoints. Next time you’re at LAX and have time before or after your flight, consider walking there. It makes the food taste even better! Hopefully these In-N-Out Burger LAX walking directions are helpful.
Take those burgers to another level by getting it extra toasted (they keep the buns on the grill a little longer so it develops a crust on the edges). Also, why not go all out and get the animal fries, too? lol. I get the fries well done so that they hold up better a few hours later (if they last that long).
I love their burgers, but their fries are horrible. It’s the downside of using fresh potatoes that haven’t been blanched.
Seriously Matthew?
That
Is what you get after a flight? You walk 20-25 minutes, to go to in-n-out? You’re definitely from LA, I will just have to accept it. But when you’re in Chicago, don’t make your first stop steak N shake, please 🙂
That’s a walllllllk… I’m so happy you get two in one sitting it makes me feel better about doing the same. If I’m feeling creative I’ll get two regular burgers extra toasted, with a whole grilled onion and chopped chilis (and fries, obv.).
We’re fortunate to now have In ‘n Out in the DFW area. Double double fortunate to have two within a 10-minute radius of home. Animal style-fortunate there’s almost never a wait, unless you go right at noon. But the true Texan equivalent to your In ‘n Out run is stopping at Whataburger on the way home. I’ve been known to grab an jalapeno and cheese Whataburger with onion rings if I’m flying home late. 🙂
Have to get animal fries or I won’t get them at all. Paid with an AMEX and not a CSR?
If you have a spot card, just carry it with your travel wallet. Problem solved!
But you probably could use the walk..
I had a 4+ hour layover flying IAD-LAX-MEL and took the parking spot shuttle from United T7, I had not idea that was against the rules. After I walked out of the parking garage I saw the sign about shuttle services only available for customers. So I took an uber back for around $10. Well worth it!
Those are the saddest looking fries I’ve ever seen. In-N-Out is so overrated. I live in DFW and there’s hardly ever a wait because there’s too many good alternatives here. Good on you for walking there though. I wouldn’t ever want to lug a bag that far, though.
“may that era rest in peace”….thanks for the laugh!
Poison
But if you must eat ‘fast’ food, try some on your Italy trip: in Milan mostly, but in other cities as well, there is Panino Giusto. There are dozens of outlets and other brands. Quite delicious for just €7-10 and much healthier than in-and-out looks ( I’m sure the name of that joint is some kind of gastrointestinal pun)
I love in-n-out fries. Fight me.
I always chuckle whenever Angelinos complain about walking. Yes, that particular walk sucks because of limo and taxi drivers, as well as homeless encampments on Sepulveda, but as an employee at LAX who walks farther than that to and from the employee parking lot behind Lot C twice a day, I can confirm that it’s the fastest way into and out of the airport. Walking to Ralph’s on Sepulveda to catch your Uber is often quicker than waiting for it curbside at the terminal.
The price is so cheap. In my country, it is expensive.
