Incredible $70 One-Way Fares to Europe

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 14, 2017February 14, 2017 1 Comment

I don’t typically write about deals since we see them multiple times each week now, but I cannot pass this one up. WOW Air is offering $69.99 one-way flights from a number of U.S. cities.

These include:

  • San Francisco to London
  • San Francisco to Frankfurt
  • Boston to Stockholm
  • Boston to Copenhagen
  • Miami to Berlin

These sale fares are available in February, March, and April (and a few dates in May). All itineraries are via Iceland and a stopover in Reykjavik is not available at the same price point.

WOW Air Cheap Fares to Europe

Sometimes I get so giddy about fares like this I forget that I have a large bank of miles for a reason…Still, these deals represent an incredible value.

Caution: Fine Print and Other Restrictions

I mentioned that stopovers are not permitted in Iceland but also note that WOW! Air is a genuine low-cost carrier. You can take a personal item with you at no extra charge that fits under your seat. Any hand baggage in the overhead locker or check-in will set you back at least $50 per item. You’ll also pay for food and drink. Still…$70.

Keep in mind returning will not be as cheap as $69.99. The lowest I am seeing is $239.99. $300 r/t to Europe is still incredible, but I’d rather use my miles to book a premium cabin on a full-service carrier.

CONCLUSION

One of these days I am sure I will book on WOW or Norwegian, but I’ll let this deal pass. Will you take advantage of it?

The problem here is, you won’t actually be able to fly round-trip for $300. At a minimum, you’ll have to add $100 for a carry-on both directions. After that, when you add in seat selection, drinks, etc., you’re probably going to be in the $450-500 range round-trip. That’s still good, but not especially compelling. I’d rather either pay extra for Norwegian Premium Class, or wait for the inevitable BA J-class fare sale.
