I had grand plans to fly Aer Lingus Business Class and Lufthansa First Class before Christmas this year, but after so much recent travel, I decided to lay low and stay home instead. I may not have a new Lufthansa Christmas duck for 2024, but it was a lovely Christmas Eve nevertheless.
Aer Lingus And Lufthansa Serve Special Christmas Dinners
This month, Aer Lingus has treated its business class guests a special “festive” menu that includes roast turkey with herb stuffing served alongside roast potato, honey-roasted carrot and chunky parsnip, buttered brussels sprouts, and cranberry-infused gravy. All passengers flying out of Ireland or Manchester, England in business class have had this as a menu option.
I thought it would be fun to give it a try and I also have not reviewed Aer Lingus in many years.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa treats its business and first class guests to roast goose with red cabbage and potato dumplings on longhaul flights out of Germany every December. It’s a meal that strikes me as so emblematic of Christmas that I make it a point to enjoy it each year.
My (German) wife and I rotate where we spend Christmas between the USA and Germany. This year was our Christmas to stay in Los Angeles, so I was eyeing a trip to Germany earlier this week merely for the sake of flying Aer Lingus and Lufthansa.
The award space actually opened from Munich to Los Angeles…while I’ve been on the 747-8, I have not been on a Lufthansa A380 since the pandemic and I thought a trip from Frankfurt – Munich – Los Angeles would be a lot of fun.
But ultimately I decided against the trip and while there is some regret, it has been a beautiful week at home.
Instead, I cooked goose (and rabbit) myself last night…it turned out surprisingly good…
So no Lufthansa goose or (rubber) duck or Aer Lingus turkey this year, but we enjoyed a delicious meal at home for Heiligabend.

I imagine the children decorating while singing “O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum”.
Eating rabbit is no better than eating your dog. Rabbits are pets, not food. However, since it’s already eaten, hope it was tasty.
More arbitrary lines in the sand.
Your comment just shows how culturally unaware are you.
Rabbit is delicious and an efficient converter of plants to protein. The notion that they’re solely pets is a hot take not based on the last million or so years of human history, not only in Eurasia but most importantly, in the Americas, where native peoples have a long tradition of rabbit as a primary protein.
If you’re a vegetarian or vegan due to your personal beliefs, good on you, but if you’re not eating meat because of its environmental and/or carbon footprint, almost every other animal is worse for the environment, pound for pound, than rabbit.
Poor Thumper……
I thought a trip from Frankfurt – Munich – Los Angeles would be a lot of fun.- I am just wondering what kind of fun that could be spending 11 or more hours even J in on the plane. Did they opened a Casino, bar or strip bar, bowling alley in the upper cabins on A380? 🙂 But each of its own. Merry Xmass.
Looks like a great Christmas for you and your family!!
Judging solely on looks, I’d be quite happy for the turkey dinner. If an airline could scale it a the right cost point, I’d love to see it as a regular in-flight menu item.
