Shocking: Man Plummets From A320 Door To Ground After Ground Handling Snafu

A terrifying video has emerged of a man who plummeted to the ground from the passenger door of an Airbus A320 in Indonesia after failing to notice that the stairs had been prematurely pulled away from the aircraft.

Man Falls To Ground After Stepping Off A320 With Air Stairs Removed

This is a graphic video, but first the good news: the man (miraculously) is reportedly okay. Yes, there are broken bones and he has been hospitalized. But no, his injuries are not life-threatening. I’m not sure how one avoids serious injury, let alone survives, a fall like this. But he did and that is truly cause for celebration.

That said, the man won’t win any Mensa honors for backing out of the aircraft (passenger door 1L) without first checking to see if the air stairs were still there. Oh my, what a poignant reminder to always ensure you are stepping on something when you step off an airplane.

This occurred in Indonesia and involved a TransNusa A320. It is not clear why the air stairs were removed prematurely while this member of the ground staff was still onboard.

Honestly, this video is going to give me nightmares. But it’s such an important nudge to always remember to look before you step, and truly not just off an airplane but just about anywhere. There are many ways we can die…this should not be one of them. Also, don’t back off an aircraft. Please.

Stay safe out there…

This story reminded me the recent fall of a blind man stepping into an open elevator door in a hotel in LA. Only the elevator was not present.

Another headline trying to make things seem worse than they were. The headline makes it seem like the person plummeted while the plane was in the air and not just parked. Normally you would just say “Man falls” and not use plummeted except Mathew is looking for clicks.

plummeted – fall or drop straight down at high speed.

Sure it was a painful fall but definitely set to get clicks.

Oh please. I’d say he certainly plummeted down and the post did extremely poorly so it was a wasted effort anyway.

Whoa! This will show up in more a few other airline and ground handling vendor Safety Department recurrent training videos., or it should. Being inattentive in duties around aircraft and ground equipment can have rapid and devastating consequences.
