Whew: Police Arrest Disgruntled Marriott Cook Who Planned Mass Shooting In California Hotel

Good news out of California, where Long Beach Police arrested a disgruntled Marriott employee who planned to shoot “everyone he saw” at the hotel he worked for.

Rodolfo Montoya, a cook at the Long Beach Marriott hotel, was upset over a “human resources” issue. Speaking to a co-worker, he outlined a harrowing plan in which he would use a cache of weapons to shoot both guests and employees in the lobby of the hotel. That co-worker alerted police, who obtained a search warrant to examine his home.

When police searched his home in Huntington Beach, they found:

  • multiple firearms
  • hundreds of rounds of ammunition
  • tactical gear including high-capacity magazines and an assault rifle (both of which are illegal to possess in California)
a group of boxes of ammunition and a gun
Long Beach Police Department

During a press conference on the incident, Long Beach Police Department Chief Robert Luna said:

Suspect Montoya had clear plans, intent and the means to carry out an act of violence that may have resulted in a mass casualty incident.

Montoya was arrested and booked on:

  • manufacturing and distributing assault weapons
  • possession of an assault weapon
  • making a criminal threat

He had no prior criminal record and is currently being held in a Long Beach jail with bail set at $500,000.

CONCLUSION

Luna added:

We’ve seen countless of acts of senseless violence throughout the country in the last several months. We want to remind everyone that if you see, hear or read about any threats or suspicious activity, I believe that it is your obligation to report that to the police.

I agree. What a relief to report that Montoya was apprehended, rather than report a story of carnage and death. If you do hear something, please say something. Lives may depend upon it…

Relax… Switzerland is higher than USA regarding number of firearms owned per citizen. Level of education on the other hand….

And of course the U.S. has a high black and non white latino populations which commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime just like in Brazil. Aside from isolated incidents, it is not white Mormons or whites farmers making Rio or parts of Chicago dangerous.

        @ Jackson Wright

Let’s not scapegoat on our immigrant and minority populations…it’s not helpful and it kills debate. You also need to consider the fact that these people often do not have the same access to social services, mental health treatment, or a stable job. This can lead to them turning to violence:
Source: https://www.apa.org/pi/ses/resources/publications/violence. You have to consider the outside circumstances that led to this: redlining, discrimination, etc. Often these problems were caused by the (white) people in charge.

Lastly, the white Mormons and farmers, as well as wealthy businessmen, funnel money into the NRA through membership fees or large donations respectively. The United States has a disproportionate level of gun violence compared to other countries in the world.
        https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2018/11/09/666209430/deaths-from-gun-violence-how-the-u-s-compares-with-the-rest-of-the-world

The reason? Lobbying groups that prevent life-saving gun control bills from ever going into effect. The people in power, who can actually make a difference and change the laws, are also the ones who are fueling the problem,

So back to my point. This problem runs a lot deeper than a person buying a gun and shooting a person. This problem is integrated into the power structure and discriminatory history of our country.

Face it, we have a lot more lowlifes per capita than Switzerland has.

Except for the fact that it’s not ‘lowlifes’ involved in many of these mass shooting , more often than not it’s ‘mainstream’ types ‘going postal’ ( complicated by INSANE gun laws).
        JUST INSANE .
And, needless to say, the bloated freak show is now backpedaling on reform. Lunacy.

This is going to be happening a lot more unfortunately. People have had enough of modern life and they see no way out other than to go out in infamy. You can also blame social media for this because everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame and what easier way than to have a mass shooting.

    Sad world we live in.

The guy was already breaking the law so what would one more proposed gun law do? As for Switzerland, they have a citizen militia which requires most adults to own a firearm. Oh, and they don’t have open borders where just anyone can show up and expect to become a citizen.

If we had gun control laws nationwide that banned assault riles and limited the number of cartridges, these mass shootings would be much less devastating. Also, this problem is not “illegal immigration,” see my response above to Jackson,

There isn’t a border check on any Swiss border. They constitute the very definition of open borders.

They are not in a customs union with their neighbors, but there is absolute freedom of movement of people across all of them.
