It was no ordinary flight from Perth to Melbourne after a passenger onboard stripped naked, ran up the aisle, and knocked over a flight attendant before being pulled down by his seatmates.
Naked Passenger Runs Up Aisle Toward Cockpit, Knocking Over Flight Attendant And Forcing Passenger Intervention
A Virgin Australia flight was forced to divert on Monday night after a man ran naked down the aisle. VA696 took off from Perth (PER) in Western Australia bound for Melbourne (MEL). About an hour into the flight, chaos unfolded onboard. One passenger shared his account:
“All of a sudden I hear this running up the aisle and the guy’s got no clothes on and he’s just charging towards the front of the plane.”
The man knocked over a flight attendant, kicking and screaming:
“Initially you think, God forbid, it could be an attack. It’s really distressing being on a plane in that situation.”
But three passengers rose up and stopped the naked man in his tracks:
“One good Samaritan, this big guy in business class, jumped up straight away to intervene and then these two other guys later got up and tackled him to the ground.”
After being pinned down, he was handcuffed with flex cuffs and taken to the back of the plane. According to another passenger, he remained disruptive but two air marshals onboard ensured he caused no more issues.
The flight returned to Perth where Australia Federal Police (AFP) met the aircraft and arrested the man.
An AFP spokesperson confirmed the passenger account:
“AFP officers arrested a man after he allegedly ran naked through the aircraft mid-flight and knocked a crew member to the floor.”
The man, not yet identified, is being held in a local hospital and has not yet been charged. His first court hearing will not be until June 14, 2024.
CONCLUSION
A man was arrested for running toward the cockpit naked on a Virgin Australia flight, knocking over a flight attendant in the process. His antics forced a diversion and the man is now under arrest and under hospital observation.
I’m not familiar with the Australian air marshall system, but it seems rather fortunate that there were not one but two marshals on one narrowbody flight, doesn’t it?

At least Crocodile Dundee covered his junk with a hat.
It feels like certain people don’t understand that their actions have consequences and affect others.
See… not all the crazies are in the U.S. they are everywhere.
And some people were talking crap about Bark Air being ridiculous….An airline should be catering to these crazy types
Should see if he’s a veteran with ptsd. Maybe on 2 mental meds that had a reaction. Could have had a mental break of some sort.
@Bri: Yeah, that’s how someone got away with throwing one of my customer service agents over the counter into someone in a wheelchair then kicking her while she was on the floor, breaking her arm. Guess being in Afghanistan made him get drunk, miss his connection, and beat the crap out of a woman 1/3 of his size.
This is another “Airplane” story for Minutes of Horror on YouTube! Lmaooo
what was your query for generating that AI image? “muscle hunk running naked inside a passenger plane”?
Lol. Just naked man running down aisle of 737.
Wow, the guy was actually arrested, In the US, he would have likely been questioned by airport police and then released.
Hopefully guy was good looking. But I have noticed that people on planes need to stop acting stupid and book there seats properly and sit in them and be curious.
Allegedly ran naked? He was either naked or he was not.
lol it’s Australia…everything is allegedly until it’s been proven in court to avoid being charged.
“it seems rather fortunate that there were not one but two marshals on one narrowbody flight, doesn’t it?”
Fortunate? It was a “big guy in business class” who blocked the naked man, and only after that “two other guys later got up and tackled him to the ground”. Are these “two other guys” the air marshals? that’s bad but it could be worse, the air marshals could have acted after these “two guys tackled him to the ground”. In this last case, it’s a waste of tax dollars to have these specific marshals on board.
Virgin Airlines? After that episode? Oxymoron if you ask me!
I hope the person was treated with compassion and receives the medical care he deserves / needs. He must be going through so much. Perhaps the flight was the source of unanticipated stress which caused a break in his mental health. Get well soon.
No air marshalls on domestic flights in Australia.
So who/what was onboard?
