The Wingtips Lounge at New York JFK just got the upgrade of a lifetime after moving one door down after SWISS vacated its beautiful Terminal 4 lounge. The common space is beautiful…the lounge amenities are just as pitiful as before.
The “New” Wingtips Lounge New York (JFK) Review
For context, you can read my review of the “old” Wingtips Lounge here and the SWISS lounge here. It was only during the pandemic that SWISS remodeled its T4 lounge to create a beautiful space on par with its lounges in Zurich.
But earlier this year in February, SWISS joined Lufthansa in Terminal 1 at JFK, thereby abandoning its newly refurbished lounge space. Wingtips smartly took over this space, closing up its old lounge (which it had also refurbished, but was still quite mediocre).
Lounge hours are from 8:00am to 8:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and 8:00am to 9:00pm on Sunday, Thursday, and Friday. This is a Priority Pass lounge and also a premium class lounge for the hodge-podge of non-affiliated airlines that utilize T4 at JFK. You can purchase a one-time pass for $50-150 deeding upon your length of stay (max stay is 16 hours).
The common areas have not changed–
Nor have the restrooms and showers–
But the food and drink selection have been scaled back drastically. Gone are freshly-made dishes with rich soups and delectable salads. Here’s what you can expect instead:
- Breakfast
- Fruit yogurt
- Bagels, toast, muffins
- Scrambled eggs
- Hash browns
- Lunch
- Chicken salad
- Garden vegetable soup
- Chickpea salad
- Mesclun mix
The drink selection has also been scaled back, with a limited selection of canned soda, orange juice, wine, beer, spirits, coffee, and tea.
The former first class side of the lounge is closed off…it is not clear whether permanently or temporarily.
CONCLUSION
It’s sad to see this lounge that has so many elements of SWISS is no longer a SWISS lounge. Still, I’m glad Wingtips secured the space because it does represent an improvement to the old lounge. However, the food and beverage selection is quite limited so don’t come on an empty stomach.
Mmmm…organ juice.
When I visited – there was a roped off space for premium class customers – is that still there? It is a big upgrade for them – and a good place to wait before accessing the Centurion lounge –
Interesting, I didn’t know this was in the works. Any plans for the old Wingtips space then?
My bet is the old F space will be used for SQ. In the old lounge there was a roped off area for SQ pax.
At least this is an improvement but Wingtips is a bad lounge even by PP standards.
Not sure why anyone would visit this lounge over Centurion
I certainly would not…
Centurion is so popular that no one goes there any more 😉
I sometimes visit this lounge when I arrive at JFK more than three hours prior to a flight, usually a flight departing from a different terminal. I sometimes like to lounge hop before a flight; Centurion, then USO, then Admirals Club, just for the heck of it. If traffic is very light, I might get to Terminal 4 a little more than three hours prior to my flight. Centurion lounge is very strict about the three hour timeframe, I might stop by Wingtips before Centurion. Been there two or three times in the last few months, mid afternoon, relatively crowded each time and I agree, the lunch offerings are terrible. I’m impressed that Matthew was able to get photographs of an empty lounge.
Most non-food photos were taken while still a SWISS lounge. While the lounge wasn’t crowded from 10:30a-2:00p, there were a good number of guests.
Swiss is now at Terminal 1? I missed this one. Blimey… I hope they renovate that LH lounge at Terminal 1. Yuck.
Looks better than the wingtips lounge at STL which isn’t even worth the time it takes me to pull the priority pass card out of my wallet
The old JFK Wingtip lounge was, after the one and only visit, on my exclusive list of the most discusting lounges i have been to! So for them to move to the old Swiss lounge is the upgrade of a life time!
The swiss lounge didn’t stand out in any way, but I was still looking forward to my visits for the nice ambiance and views.
closed permanently as of 11/12
Any idea why?
