Photo Essay: Kunsthaus Zürich

I enjoyed an afternoon in the Kunsthaus Zürich, Switzerland’s premiere art museum.

Kunsthaus Zürich – A Photo Essay

My wife has cultivated in me a great appreciation for art and I now make it a point to visit art museums in major cities around the world. In Zurich, I was traveling with a friend who also greatly appreciated art and we spent three hours wandering through the Kunsthaus (art house) and taking in not only a number of great paintings and sculptures from masters of the past and present, but also a fascinating

Monet, Picasso, and van Gogh may be the big draws here, but I also appreciated the works of Marc Chagall, Oskar Kokoschka, and Loves Corinth.

Another favorite part of the museum is a room designed by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist that provides an ethereal experience of lights and sounds in a 3D space. I could spend hours in here watching the lights change color and listening to the music change, as if to represent the changing seasons (it’s a bit difficult to describe – you must see it yourself). I love how this room attracted “oohs” and “awes” from both young and old.

Please enjoy my photo essay below of artwork that caught my eye and take time to visit the Kunsthaus next time you are in Zurich:

I think I’m a worldly and cultured person until the topic of art comes up. Sure one of the Van Gogh pieces caught my eye, but the fact that he was the only painter I really recognized just makes me feel even more provincial.

stupendous collection in a lightly traffic’d museum. It was one of the most inspiring days at the museum—ever.
    thank you for the memories.

They’re very proud that Dadaism started in Zurich, loads of Dadist pics in there but obviously not to your taste

Admittedly, the Dadaism works did not catch my eye, but I greatly appreciate this genre of art.
