Restless Man Attempts Pull-Ups On My Air France Flight…

Yesterday I shared about my Air France flight from Paris to Los Angeles onboard a 777, but there was one detail I neglected to mention: the man who thought it would be a great idea to do stretching and even attempt pull-ups from a rod indicating the location of an emergency exit.

Man Uses Emergency Exit Row To Stretch, Tries Pull-Ups On My Air France 777

Paris to LA is a long flight to be stuck in economy class and I realize that after many hours of remaining seated, you just want to stretch. That’s what the aisle is for, of course, or the galley and lavatory area in the rear of the plane.

But one passenger had another idea. He stood up and grabbed ahold of the bar or rod used to place an exit/sortie sign near the over-wing emergency exit door.

He grabbed on and began to stretch…probably not a good idea because you don’t how much weight that rod can bear, but yes indeed, a good tool to stretch on.

But then he had the bright idea to try to do a pull-up…

He placed his arms about two feet apart and then gingerly raised one foot…then the second. I was waiting for the bar to break off, but thankfully the man realized what he was doing was not a good idea and sat back down.

Too bad all the crew was gabbing in the business class cabin and did not notice…

No harm, no foul I suppose, but in all my years of flying I’ve never seen anyone attempt to use a curtain rod or cabin divider, or exit sign as an exercise tool.

Hopefully, we won’t see it again either…

Meh. No harm done. It’s a long flight. Not sure what the big deal is.

Cy I would worry if the bar had broken it might necessitate a diversion.

If he breaks it, absolutely. But if he’s just holding on and stretching for a few min on an 11 hr flight…no big deal imo. Clearly doing pull ups would be dumb and thankfully he seems to have realized that.

Because the aircraft is private property and not your home or play place?

The galley is not your stretching place either. That’s crew work space so please respect that.

Between meals on an intercontinental flight when the crew sets up self-serve snacks there?

I’ve seen this kind of thing on one flight of mine and was wondering what the guy was thinking. But stranger still are the adults I’ve seen doing frog hops down the plane aisles.

No harm done? just like a drunk driver got caught and is saying no harm done. there was one guy doing it and if it’s okay, there’d be more people doing that and who knows the airplane’d get ripped apart.

Re: “… thankfully the man realized what he was doing was not a good idea and sat back down.”, wrong. It was actually Douchebag Dave Edwards and he sat back down only when he realized he was far to weak to even do 1 pull-up. Bigoted bullies like Douchebag Dave Edwards have as little physical strength as they do emotional and intellectual strength.

I know the feeling. I’ve wanted to push-ups or sit-ups on long flights before but never did.

Good grief it’s not a stretch it’s a call for attention. Call it for what it is…
This is why we’re never going back to the moon. We’re a self indulgent “look at me” society.
