Qatar Airways is one my favorite business class product in the world, offering great comfort, food, and service. It also happens to be a better deal than ever before when using frequent flyer miles. That is why I recommend you take advantage of excellent award availability currently available to lock in 2023 travel.
Qatar Airways Business Class Award Space For Spring/Summer 2023
View From The Wing highlighted that Qatar Airways has released a glut of premium cabin award space on flights around the world for travel next May and June.
While that marks a hot time of year in the Middle East, India, and East Asia, you can continue to on to Africa and enjoy the southern hemisphere winter in what represents an award spot sweet spot.
Using American Airlines miles, you can fly between the U.S. and Doha for 70,000 miles each way in business class or you can fly between the U.S. and South Africa via Doha for only 75,000 miles each. That 5,000-mile premium for a connecting flight to anywhere on the African subcontinent is worthy of your consideration.
Qatar Airways flies from the following U.S. gateways:
- Atlanta (ATL)
- Boston (BOS)
- Chicago (ORD)
- Dallas – Fort Worth (DFW)
- Houston (IAH)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- Miami (MIA)
- New York (JFK)
- Philadelphia (PHL)
- Washington (IAD)
These tickets can be booked online at AA.com.
You can also book directly via Qatar Airways Avios (a Citi transfer partner) or British Airways Avios, which recently lowered prices for Qatar Airways redemptions.
Why Book 2023 Award Space Now?
Those who booked their 2022 award space in 2021 saw tremendous savings, as air travel has been so busy this summer we’ve not even seen much last-minute space open at saver levels. Prices are higher than I’ve ever seen for last-minute award space on most legacy carriers.
I expect 2023 will be another busy year of travel, particularly summer travel, even if we enter recession. Therefore, the shrewd will book now, noting that if using American Airlines miles you can cancel at anytime without penalty and redeposit the miles.
CONCLUSION
Qatar Airways offers a luxurious business class product and a great network around the world. If you have the miles, I’d seriously be considering a holiday to South Africa next summer or one of the many other destinations Qatar serves.
There does seem to be more availability, but still not flying the flights or destinations I want.
That’s a lot less miles than what the Skytean awards cost these days.
Does Qatar ever release more than 2 J award seats per flight? I’d love to book with AAdvantage miles, but would like to book for my entire family of 4 and all flights of interest seem to be capped at 2 available seats.
