Epic: Shake Shack Cheeseburger On Delta Air Lines

I’ve written before about the Shake Shake cheeseburgers on Delta Air Lines, but finally had a chance to try one and can unequivocally declare it was the best burger I’ve ever had on an airplane.

Taste Test: Shake Shack Cheeseburger On Delta Air Lines

I’ve enjoyed many delicious burgers on planes over the years and am fairly easy to please in that regard. Even so, I found the Shake Shack cheeseburger on my recent Delta flight from Seattle (SEA) to Chicago (ORD) to be sublime (well, as sublime as a burger can be).

The Shake Shack cheeseburger features a 100% Angus beef patty, topped with cheese and served on a toasted potato bun. You can then customize your “ShackBurger” with toppings like tomato, lettuce, and Shake Shack’s famous ShackSauce, all served on the side. The meal also features chips and a dark chocolate brownie (it used to feature a Caesar salad as well, but Delta cut that).

a hand holding a package of food

a bowl of salad with onions and tomatoes

a container of cheese and vegetables

a brownie in a plastic wrapper on a plate

It may not have been as beautiful as the stock photos, but this was a very satisfying burger (making me thankful I did not stuff myself in the lounge before the flight).

Delta does not offer mixed nuts or a salad with any entree, which I find lacking compared to American Airlines and United Airlines, but this was such a delicious dish and one that I would not hesitate to order again (though I love the short ribs on Delta too).

You can pre-order this burger in first class flights from:

  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • Boston (BOS)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Minneapolis (MSP)
  • New York-LaGuardia (LGA)
  • Seattle (SEA)

(it is available on flights over 900 miles during lunch and dinner hours)

Crack all the jokes you want about my poor tastes, but this burger was epic and I think Delta is winning the airline burger wars right now. I actually think Delta could pull off French Fries onboard (Cathay Pacific certainly does) and would love to see that in the future. For now, the chips are fine and the burger is very delicious.

Was waiting for you to review this! Have you tried the sliders on AA yet?

I have had the AA sliders and the DL Shake Shack Burger – it may be unpopular opinion but I preferred the sliders! I did appreciate that the Shake Shack burger came with fresh lettuce/onion/pickle but I am a sucker for grilled caramelized onions. I also liked the “fries” that came with the slider, they were warm and passable for fries versus the bag of chips. This is all dependent on who is serving and if they heat them long enough.

      The brownie though!!

I’ve flown AA several times recently and the sliders are off the menu…

Had them less than a month ago. Definitely not off the menu.

I should note, the AA sliders did not have the fresh lettuce/Pickle/tomato that I recall.

Love a good burger update! Does this compare to Singapore airlines burger ?

Shake Shack is actually the only fast food place my kids ask to go. Their burgers are very good.

And so are the “shakes” and “malts” very good .

Agree. I personally don’t eat almost anything they sell at Shake Shack (sometimes just the burger patty) but my kids rave about their malts and shakes as well.

@Matthew, the Shake Shack burger is also available out of MCO as well.

Overrated burger on an extremely overrated and outright evil airline.

Like all of his consistently negative comments about Delta. I suspect “O’Hare is my 2nd home” works for United.

A fast food burger in first. How can this be excused. Really?

Have you eaten food in F on a US carrier? I’m guessing if it isn’t ordered it will go away. If it is ordered, then you think DL still shouldn’t do it because it doesn’t match your preferences?

        October 8, 2025 at 1:56 pm

Delta can do whatever it wants but this is a cheapening of what should be an unparalleled travel experience. If there were chicken nuggets shaped like animals would you order them too and think that you were enjoying a premium experience?

My favourite burger in the air is on SQ, via the “book the cook” option.

I don’t fly Delta too much, but I will definitely try the shake shack burger the next time I find myself on a DL operated flight out of the cities you mentioned.

Finally something my kid will eat! Now if we can get some chicken nuggets up in the air, we’ll be all set. (I’m sure they’ll settle for chicken tenders).

Maybe you mentioned this and I missed it. Do you ever go to Shake Shack on the ground? Your photos don’t really look all that appetizing. It looks like an overcooked microwave reheat with cheese left in the microwave too long

Flying through SLC next week. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to order this burger!
