Saturday Night Live Sketch Hilariously Parodies Mid-Tier Hotel Chains

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 14, 2021December 13, 2021 21 Comments

SNL Hotel Sketch

If you need a five minute break from your day, take a look at this hilarious sketch from Saturday Night Live which parodies what to expect at a typical mid-tier roadside hotel in 2021:

This is so spot-on! From the guest room description to the complimentary breakfast (refrigerator locked at 8:59AM and sausages that squirt) to the reasons for booking:

  • Business conference
  • Intervention
  • Magic: The Gathering Tournament
  • Affair with old man
  • Meeting stranger who claims to have information
  • Funeral for aunt who died driving the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway
  • Cult deprograming
  • After-prom hand stuff
  • Hiding from police

There’s such an element of truth in this.

Watch it…you’ll really be glad you did. Nice work Billy Eilish!

Does this not capture the mid-tier hotel expense  with a bit of hyperbole but a lot of truth? Who hasn’t seen a stain in their chair a mid-tier hotel?

Watched it Saturday evening and was laughing almost the whole way through. Just the name of the place – Business Garden Inn & Suites & Hotel Room Inn – was hilarious because it was both ridiculous and apt at the same time!

It’s actually remarkably unfunny for the most part (except when they nearly broke character halfway through).

Who plays Trevor in this skit? He’s not listed on the cast of SNL…

That was Billie Eilish’s brother Finneas, who also accompanied her on her musical segments.

I actually really like mid-tier hotels in the US! The ones that honestly disappoint me the most is the older Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton/Hyatt properties.

I’m a big SNL fan, and I think Billie Eilish did a great job hosting. This sketch was spot on! The +1 and I were dying, though I’ve spent a lot more nights than her at “Business Garden Inns” across rural America, so perhaps I was just simply laughing at my own pain, but hey, without stays at Hyatt Place, there wouldn’t be Cat 1-7 certs to use in Paris, Tokyo, and Sydney!

I’m a budget traveler and I loved that sketch. Haven’t actually stayed at a hotel quite that bad (not counting casual hook-up places) but I’ve come close. Hope I didn’t share too much.

Lol that was good fun. Forget the over-analysis. I like these little motels but definitely they have their nuances. Eg the hot tub and young kids getting an eyeful of the wife 🙂

I quite enjoyed that. I haven’t seen SNL in decades, it just seemed to become quite rote at some point. Also, I have now narrowed down to two people what Billie Ellish looks like. I’ve seen the name in various publications but never a pic. Is it the blond or the brunette?

      The brunette.

Many years ago I also came across a wrong way driver on the Taconic Parkway (New York State). It was a cold snowy night . Went into a snow bank can came within inches of a major accident. Great post!

I can make a much better-looking waffle than that. Stand by after flipping and wait for the beep.

In terribly poor taste. Shame on you SNL. Why was it necessary to reference the Taconic crash? Not at all something to laugh at. That was a real tragedy where 8 people were killed, 4 of them under 10. Dishusting.

Yes it was weird that they referenced that, that was a tragic accident. Usually I have an irreverent sense of humor but that crossed the line.

Thank you! I watched this on YouTube and was going along fine with it until this part about the Parkway tragedy. WHY did they do this? And why hasn’t anyone called them out on it?
