My Top 10 Hotel Stays In 2022

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 31, 2022November 13, 2023 5 Comments

As 2022 draws to a close, it is time for my annual “Top 10” series. Here, I’ll look back on my 10 favorite hotel stays from 2022.

As a reminder, this is not a top-1o all-time list, but only covers my hotel stays this year. I stayed at more hotels in 2022 than in 2020 or 2021 and narrowing my list down was a bit of a challenge. As in years past, I was fiercely loyal to Hyatt but for good reason…I have enjoyed superior service, generous upgrades, and great treatment overall. That said, the list is a bit more diverse this year than in past years and I enjoyed many nights at various Four Seasons properties around the world, which offer a consistently excellent experience.

10. Mar Monte Hotel

Mar Monte Hotel Review

I stayed at the Mar Monte Hotel in Santa Barbara, CA more than any other hotel this year. It has become the de facto weekend getaway for my family. We love the location, breakfast, and views from this hotel.

9. Great Scotland Yard Hotel

a building with flags on the front

In London for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, I spent a night at the Great Scotland Yard Hotel. It proved to be the ideal location for viewing the Trooping the Colour ceremony and was itself a very comfortable hotel with a delicious breakfast.

8. Park Hyatt Doha

Park Hyatt Doha Upgrade

I received a generous suite upgrade and appreciated the fitness and wellness facilities at this hotel. However, there is great room for improvement in the breakfast and coffee department.

7. Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn

a pool in a resort

My family enjoyed a great Thanksgiving weekend at this property and looking forward to returning. The rooms are dated, but the views are extraordinary.

6. Four Seasons Alexandria

a bedroom with a bed and chairs and a table

While it was a joy to visit friends in Alexandria, I also greatly enjoyed the warm hospitality and excellent service at the Four Seasons Alexandria. Stay tuned for a full review.

5. Four Seasons Istanbul

a large white building with a fountain in front of it

This hotel was #2 last year and falls to #4 not so much because of anything it did, but because I was sick while here and spent most of my stay in bed.

4. Villa Dubrovnik

a white chairs and a table with umbrellas on a deck

What a lovely boutique hotel this was with beautiful views and great amenities.

3. St. Regis Amman

two men in a restaurant

I usually stay at the Grand Hyatt in Amman, but this year stayed at the St. Regis. It was a lovely hotel with great service, spa, and breakfast. Stay tuned for a full review.

2. Four Seasons Tunis

a pool with trees and a building in the background

I stayed at the Four Seasons during my trip to Tunis and loved this hotel (service, food, and my room). Tunisia was my most highly-underrated destination of the year.

1. Four Seasons Doha

a living room with a chandelier and couches

Not only did I enjoy a relaxing five days here, but the service was really superb. It’s not all that expensive to stay here, but expect to pay a lot for food and beverage onsite.

Love staying at the Hyatt Carmel! Have you ever stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country in Santa Rosa? No Carmel but a nice option when in that area.

I’m currently at the GH in Istanbul. Somewhat regret not just paying for the FS, but I’ll do it next time. Glad to see PH Doha ranked so high. I’m staying there soon and I’m excited. Interesting to not see anything in East Asia on the list, but I suppose that just reflects your travel patterns in ’22.

Why did the same hotel rate as number 8 and number 1? (Four Seasons Doha”) Thank You.
