United Airlines’ “Adventure Week” Secret Destination Award Fare Sale: Brussels

This week United Airlines is offering discounted travel to a different major city each day at a reduced rate of 50,000 MileagePlus miles round-trip. Today’s destination is Brussels. Whether this deal makes sense for you will involve a little bit of homework.

United Airlines Adventure Week Award Fare Sale

On Monday, United launched its “Adventure Week” promotion where MileagePlus members looking to get away this winter can take advantage of flight deals to a new mystery destination each day.

  • Monday, January 8: London (deal expired)
  • Tuesday, January 9: Paris (deal expired)
  • Wednesday, January 10: Amsterdam (deal expired)
  • Thursday, January 11: Frankfurt (deal expired)
  • Friday, January 12: Brussels

Brussels is perhaps the only major city in Western Europe I have not explored. While I’ve flown through BRU many times, I’ve never spent a night in the city. For some reason, listing the Atomium is on my bucket list…

My son Augustine loves reading The Adventures of Tintin, which has given him a bit of a link to Belgium. Brussels Airlines is one of the carriers I hope to review again this year.

As for whether this is a good deal or not depends upon the economy class prices of the ticket. Do check that before booking this. I value United miles at two cents each so unless a ticket was more than $1,000 it would be a pass for me. You may not value your miles as much as I do, but do make sure you are at least getting one cent per mile in value.

This deal is for economy class only and travel must originate in the contiguous U.S. to be eligible (journeys beginning in Alaska or Hawaii are not eligible).

CONCLUSION

United Airlines is offering 50K round-trip deals this week to top destinations around the globe. Today’s city is Brussels, the last and final destination of the fare sale.

Story coming on the United flight that had to make an emergency landing in Tampa? Was an A319 with a door indicator light issue.

Fun grammar fact, when both Alaska and Hawaii are excluded, the remaining 48 states are contiguous, not continental. If it was continental, then Alaska would be included as well because it’s on the same continent as 48 contiguous states 🙂

There is also an error in “travel must originate in the continental U.S. are eligible” . It should say “to be eligible”, not “are eligible”.

OK, OK, I’m done for the day!

@Lukas … Many in Hawaii believe we are part of North America because we are a state of the United States , Many others believe we are part of Oceana because we are off-shore islands in the Pacific Ocean , as is Guam and Samoa .

You must be so pleasant to be around. Why do things like this trigger folks like you? I guess my trigger is wasting time asking you. I am sure you will correct something I have typed.

I’ve been pretty disappointed by these deals so far. When they announced it last week, I was excited because I’ve used their one-day sales to book tickets to Tahiti and New Zealand in the past. But just 4 different cities in Europe for 50k round-trip (and requiring roundtrip) during low season when cash tickets are probably the better deal is pretty disappointing.

Agreed – plus they could have at least offered some promotional pricing for business class in order to showcase their premium products to the mass affluent leisure market. Unless you are into skiing, anything North of the Bucharest – Marseille line is better left alone between November and March.

    Greetings Matthew,
I enjoy your articles about your experiences on different aircraft and destinations. I’m anticipating travel to Scotland in July 2024. What would be your recommendation route from US to Scotland ? Maybe you have a previous article that would help. Thank You for your time. Safe Travels , MDF

That depends upon your class of service. Which cabin do you intend to fly in?

Frankfurt is what? A livable city? I´d rather be in Frankfort, KY than Frankfurt am Main.

Brussels is one of the nicest cities in Europe with arguably the best food . . . but quite gray and more than a bit dismal during winter. I’d rather pay a few miles more to see it at it’s best when the lovely parks are in bloom and the sun is shining than to save a few miles and see it at it’s worst.
