Here’s how United describes its snack boxes:

 Tapas Snack Box

European-themed snacks, including olives, hummus, crackers and more.

Contents include:

  • Sourdough flatbread
  • Italian breadsticks
  • Pitted green olives
  • Bruschetta spread
  • Hummus
  • Almonds
  • Dark chocolate sea salt caramel

Takeoff Snack Box

High protein-themed snacks, including salami, cheese, dried fruits and more.

Contents include:

  • Cream crackers
  • Multigrain crackers
  • Smoked gouda spread
  • White cheddar spread
  • Dried apricots
  • Salami slices
  • Toblerone chocolate

This replaces the “Select” snack box.

Recline Snack Box

Movie theater-themed snacks, including popcorn, pretzels, cookies and more.

Contents include:

  • Pirate’s Booty white cheddar puff snacks
  • Honey mustard pretzels
  • Gummy bears
  • Oreo cookies

These new snack boxes will be available for purchase in economy class on the following flights, starting April 12, 2021:

  • Chicago (ORD) ⇄ Honolulu (HNL)
  • Chicago (ORD) ⇄ Maui (OGG)
  • Houston (IAH) ⇄ Honolulu (HNL)
  • Newark (EWR) ⇄ Honolulu (HNL)
  • Guam (GUM) ⇄ Honolulu (HNL)

And expand to flights on April 12, 2021:

  • All Hawaii flights to/from:
    • Chicago (ORD)
    • Denver (DEN)
    • Guam (GUM)
    • Houston (IAH)
    • Newark (EWR)
  • Transcontinental flights
    • Los Angeles (LAX)
      • Boston (BOS)
      • Newark (EWR)
      • New York (JFK)
    • San Francisco (SFO)
      • Boston (BOS)
      • Newark (EWR)
      • New York (JFK)

MileagePlus 1K members flying in economy class are eligible for a free snack box on flights in which they are sold.

First class passengers will have access to the Tapas or Takeoff boxes, but not Recline box (though it won’t hurt to ask a flight attendant, if that is what you want).

CONCLUSION

The “Tapas” and “Takeoff” boxes include the same contents as before, while the new “Recline” box slightly improves up on the former “Classic” box.

Look for these snack boxes available for purchases on the routes listed above starting next month.

Had the tapas box last week. First flight on UA in 1.5 years. I thought it was pretty bad. It’s like when you haven’t eaten all day and you find a (slightly) upscale vending machine. Nothing was healthy and except for the hummus tased overly processed.

I think these boxes are fine for the once a year traveller who’s diet regularly includes Burger King…but if your a 1k flying every week and continually eating these…and are okay with it.. your bar is set pretty low

The ‘Recline’ snack box seems really underwhelming to me, especially compared to the other two.

Takeoff = old select, good news on the other snack boxes returning, the last 2 months I’ve only seen Tapas which is getting old quick.

Same old processed no-nutrition-value sh!t, different name and packaging…disappointing but I guess fully expected

Compared to some of the regular meals I’ve had in domestic F, the tapas box is just fine.

Can’t wait to get a Recline Snack Box while I recline in my Polaris seat flying IAD-SFO watching cinematic masterpieces while eating cinematic themed snacks.

Lots of folks on here complaining about the food being processed and unhealthy. Curious, what would the perfect snack box be?

Not a food box, but I have had many domestic F meals where I wished they had instead just provided a Potbelly or Pret a Manger sandwich with chips.

My wife LOVES Oreos and pretzels and my daughter would sink her teeth into the gummies. Those cheese puffs look pretty unappetizing though.

The cheese puffs are actually the only things that looks appealing to me!

Right, they are limited in what they can offer that is still shelf-stable. I think this is the best they can do given the circumstances.

Yogurt, Hummus, gluten free crackers, prosciutto , feta cheese, carrot and apple pieces, olives,
    Sounds good to me.

The flight food options are usually terrible but are awful for food allergies. I generally try to find another option but ended up in this gluten-free and nut-free food dessert that is these options.

The only other “food” is gummy bears on a cross country flight. Ugh.
