Vivid Sydney, A Spectacular Light Show

My stay at the Park Hyatt Sydney happened to coincide with Vivid Sydney, a spectacular annual light show.

Vivid Sydney is an “annual outdoor lighting festival with immersive light installations and projections in Sydney.”

It began in 2009 as a simple light show over the Opera House, but expanded over the years and now includes light shows over several Sydney landmarks as well as musical performances and public “idea exchanges” including lectures and debates. The festival takes place over a three-week period and will occur in 2018 from May 25th through June 16th.

Last year over 2.3 million people attended, adding tens of millions of dollars to the local New South Wales economy.

And if you’re staying at the Park Hyatt Sydney, you are right in the middle of it.

Here are some shots I took from my balcony:

The only downside was the evening night shows brought a lot of people and were loud. Thankfully, the crowds died down before it was too late and it did not impact my sleep at the hotel.

While not worth a special trip to Australia, this was a fun event that further added to the charm of Sydney. There is something magical about visiting Australia and I look forward to returning again.
