Review: Park Hyatt Sydney (Opera View Deluxe)

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 24, 2018November 14, 2023 Leave a Comment

This Park Hyatt Sydney review covers my upgraded Opera View Deluxe room. For a full review of the property, its restaurants, and amenities, you can read my earlier review.

The upgrade was unexpected: thank a broken thermostat in my original room for that. Not that this property doesn’t play upgrade shenanigans with Globalist members. Theoretically, I should have been able to move to this room my second night whether I had the thermostat issue or not.

A deluxe room at the Park Hyatt Sydney is more spacious than a standard room. In terms of square meters, a standard room is 40-45 square meters while a deluxe room is 75 square meters. With the full couch and more open floorpan, you really notice the additional space to move around.

It’s a fairly expensive upgrade if you’re paying for it versus a base room:

Our room, 114, had two balconies overlooking the Opera House with two chairs and an ottoman on the larger balcony.

The bathroom and bedroom were essentially merged into one large room, though a partition could be drawn for privacy while using the bathtub.

Another Technical Glitch!

Our room key stopped working. It was replaced and still didn’t work. Engineers troubleshooted but could not fix the problem until they exchanged the whole locking mechanism in the door. The hotel was embarrassed after our problem the previous evening and sent over tea and toffee to the room–

a bowl of wrapped candy

It made more a nice midday snack.

CONCLUSION

While all rooms at this property are nice, it really made a difference to be in this room. Ask about upgrades at check-in: sometimes they are cheaper if the hotel is not full. If you’re a Globalist Member, it also doesn’t hurt to ask though this constitutes a “triple upgrade”.

What a view to wake up to each morning:
