Review: ANA Suite Lounge Honolulu (HNL)

The ANA Suite Lounge in Honolulu may not be the best first class lounge in the world, but it’s now probably the best airport lounge in HNL.

The food and drink selection is a bit better than the business class side, but where the ANA Suite Lounge in Honolulu really shines is the superior service. There was never more than 10 people in the lounge, making the staff to passenger ratio about 2:1.

Reserved for first class passengers and ANA Mileage Club Diamond members, this lounge is a small fraction of the size of the ANA Lounge for Star Alliance Gold and business class passengers and has no tarmac views or outdoor windows at all.

But there are eager staff waiting to assist. Five members of staff bowed to me as I entered the lounge and one immediately offered me a choice of drink, cold towel, and a menu. Here, the a la carte menu was more like a noodle bar menu.

The buffet was nearly identical to the business class side, but there were a few additional items like baked Mahi Mahi, tofu, and fresh berries with yogurt. Planning for a big feast onboard my flight to Tokyo, I limited my dining to a Continental breakfast.

A full bar was also available. Machine-dispensed Nestle coffee is horrible…sorry, it is, so just stick to tea.

Restrooms are compact (no showers) and feature Toto toilets with bidets.

Boarding for ANA flights commences directly from the lounge.

Like the adjoining ANA Lounge, the ANA Suite Lounge is open from 8:30AM until the final ANA flight departs.

CONCLUSION

No lounge is perfect and I’d say the limited a la carte menu, poor coffee, and lack of natural light make this only a mediocre first class lounge. But compared to the other lounge offerings in HNL, especially in terms of the personalized service offered, this lounge sets the standard.

Lack of shower sucks, but the food seems on par with their first class lounge NRT.

Yes, built into the toilet, not separate.
