I’ve reviewed the British Airways Airbus A319 in Club Europe (business class) before and so for my flight from Madrid (MAD) to London (LHR) I will focus on the delicious lunch served onboard.
British Airways Club Europe Lunch
Let’s get the flight formalities out of the way first. Club Europe on the A319 includes a blocked middle seat in the front of the aircraft and a meal included in your fare. I find the legroom and crowding in British Airways shorthaul economy class almost unbearably tight, so I greatly appreciated the chance to fly business class. A blocked middle seat makes a big difference. Once again, my family had the entire first row to ourselves and the extra legroom made the experience even better.
Flight attendants offered hand wipes during boarding.
I appreciated that this plane had been provisioned with power outlets, which I took advantage of.
After takeoff, we were offered a trio of lunch choices, including:
- Bulgur with cranberries, carrots, cauliflower, and broccolini
- Lamb Shepherd’s pie
- Spinach gnocchi
All meals were served with bread, salad, and a vanilla pudding dessert with chocolate and strawberries. Catering is by Do & Co.
My wife sensibly ordered the vegetarian dish, though left the bulgur behind and just had the vegetables and salad.
I ordered the lamb Shepherd’s pie, which was just great pub comfort food. A very solid choice and very filling.
However, Augustine made the best choice with the spinach gnocchi. Airplane pasta tends to turn out well and although it looked like a soupy mess when he unwrapped it, the sauce was flavorful, the gnocchi perfectly cooked, and the bits of sun-dried tomato added an excellent contrast of flavor to the cheesy, almost sweet sauce.
I first (kind of happily) thought that I’d have to finish Augustine’s lunch because he didn’t seem all that hungry.
But he finished it…
…and then promptly fell asleep.
I just sat back and rested, enjoying my pudding with a strong cup of coffee.
CONCLUSION
We landed in London ahead of schedule–it had been a restful, comfortable, and certainly a filling flight.
One more thing. I can’t help but to share one more picture (speaking of rude behavior). Brothers will be brothers…

This is part of my summer in Germany trip report.

I had to google “Bulgur…”
“Bulgur, also riffoth and burghul, is a cereal food made from the cracked parboiled groats of several different wheat species, most often from durum wheat”
That didn’t exactly help.
The kid needs a haircut
Sounds like someone is jealous …
That’s siblings for you 🙂
Hey. At least Augustine kept his shoes on. Lol.
❤️ Augustines’ mounds of curly hair! . Do you have to blow dry it or just leave it damp and air dry?
Substitute the carrots (are those carrots?) with sweet potatoe-yam and that would really be a healthy meal. The kid will tell you when he needs a haircut or just take him to a hot beach in the Mediterranean. But what do I know, I don’t have kids.
