Delta Air Lines A330-300 Diverts After Violent Passenger Breaks Free Of Restraints

A Detroit-bound Delta Air Lines A330-300 diverted to a remote region of Canada after a violent passenger managed to break free of restraints, forcing a quintet of passenger to tackle him.

Violent Passenger Forces Diversion Of Delta Air Lines Flight 97  – Multiple Passengers Had To Restrain Him On A330-300

The incident occurred on Friday, June 2, 2023, onboard Delta flight DL97, traveling from Paris (CDG) to Detroit (DTW). The Airbus A330-300 aircraft was carrying 261 passengers onboard.

For reasons that have not yet been released, a 34-year-old American man was restrained by flight attendnats but managed to break free. Five passengers jumped up to subdue the man, holding him down until the flight was on the ground.

Even with the problematic passenger restrained, the captain opted to divert the flight to the nearest safe landing point, which was Stephenville (YJT), located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Upon landing, Royal Canadian Mounted Police boarded the plane and removed the man. The following video was taken of his removal:

The plane then continued to Detroit, landing at 3:23 pm local time, just under two hours late. In Stephenville, the total time on the ground was just under 90 minutes.

A Delta spokesperson condemned the problematic passenger, who has not yet been named:

“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior, especially when it potentially compromises the safety of our customers and flight crew. This unruly customer was removed at Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, and remanded to the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.”

No injuries were reported.

CONCLUSION

A man broke out of restraints and had to be restrained by at least five passengers on a Delta flight bound for Detroit. While the motive is not clear and the full circumstances have not yet been revealed, it really does not matter. What matters is that this man is in a heap of trouble for acting so violently. At the very least, I hope he receives a large bill from Delta for the extra fuel, labor, and any related expenses from passengers who may have missed their onward connections in Detroit.

Have these people not realized that throwing a tantrum in a metal tube will not lead to anything positive?

Had to know he was going to Detroit before boarding so that’s not an excuse.

There’s NO excuse for this type of behavior on an airline.
The airlines need to quit pussyfooting these people.
Depending on the severity of their actions, they need to BE BANNED from flying on ALL airlines for some period of time and not just fined and slapped on the wrist.

iF this happened on a Middle Eastern Airline, i don’t think we would ever hear, or see from these types of offenders again. I think it’s time we start doing the same.

Year another reason why we need at least two security personnel armed with tasers and something even more lethal n every flight. However, the airlines would rather risk the lives of already abused innocent passengers to save a few bucks. As usual I am disgusted at the thought of flying.

Maybe Boeing or Airbus could design an airlock like those on spaceships in science fiction movies. It would save time, fuel, and headaches. Might I suggest a loud recorded flushing sound when the outer door opens.

I have repeatedly posted that we need to have a system to screen “emotionally unstable” as much as we screen for intoxication or medically unstable, unsuitable to spend several hours in a confined space.
I do this for a living, and have actually seen people on airplanes that were obviously impaired, but, by now it seems everybody looks the other way.
Up to 5% of our population have some potentially serious psychiatric impairment (government statistics,) and, on any flight with 200 passengers, as many as 10 individuals could be not suitable for the environment inside an airliner in flight.

Chimps be chimping. This a*hole should get a lifetime ban on flying.

Biden and Buttgag are squarely to blame. They could have enacted changes to federal transportation laws to stop this dangerous nonsense:
    1. Mandatory 30 days in jail with no bail.
    2. $10,000 fine, payable within 7 business days and can be withheld from any current or future federal payment (income tax refund, social security, any entitlement benefits, etc)
    3. Lifetime no-fly listing and banned from any USA airport.
Until such measures are enacted, why would anyone think this behavior will ever stop?
