Award earning and redemption options just got a little better on American Airlines.
As of 01 June, American Airlines AAdvantage miles can be earned on most Etihad flights. Three notable exclusions are flights between Abu Dhabi and New York, Chicago, and Toronto–though these flights will earn miles if you book them as AA codeshares.
More importantly, later this year AA miles will be redeemable for travel on Etihad flights. With a first class product that consistently wins accolades, I look forward to trying out Etihad’s forward cabin. It is not clear yet, however, whether the exclusions above will also apply to award redemption. Let’s hope not.
It is a shame I never got to try out Emirates First Class before United and Continental ended their partnership with them, so I am happy to see redemption options available on another Gulf carrier.
