"Ladies and Gents, Nepal Airlines Flight 410 to Kathmandu is Delayed…Due to a Mouse"

A new threat is on the loose–bandits wreaking havoc on one poor airline and sending its passengers into a state of panic. The airline has called for their destruction, but these zealots are on a mission and are not about to lay down their arms. Who are these thugs? Mice.

Last Tuesday in Hong Kong, Nepal Airlines flight 410 bound for Kathmandu was preparing for boarding when one of the pilots noticed a mouse scurrying by in the cockpit. Boarding was halted and troops were deployed to find and extinguish the mouse.

By Wednesday afternoon, though, the mouse remained at large.

Sita Gurung, Hong Kong General Manager of the Nepal’s flag carrier at its Hong Kong stated, “The mouse has not been caught yet, but efforts are under way to take care of it,” adding that the airline has placed mouse traps on the plane. A cakewalk…

In the meantime, the debt-laden airline coughed up for hotel rooms and meals for the 84 stranded passengers. Because the mouse is still lurking somewhere in the belly of the Boeing, the airline is also sending passengers to Kathmandu on competitor airlines today.

Hopefully the airline’s aggressive show of force will translate to decisive victory rather than spawn a new generation of destructive mice. But only time will tell.

Or maybe that particular 757 aircraft is just haunted. The same plane was grounded for half a day in Kathmandu last Monday due to…a mouse onboard. On that flight, a mouse jumped out from a box of drinks, prompting a frantic evacuation onboard.

But lest you think it was the same mouse, Air Nepal spokesman Raju Bahadur KC stated, “Our engineers have photographs of the mouse that was found dead stuck to sticky glue used as a trap.”

If they catch this latest perpetrator, I hope they put him on the first flight to Leeward Point Field. Glue is such an easy way out…
