Lufthansa’s A350 “Flying Penthouse”

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 29, 2018November 14, 2023 5 Comments

The commercial passenger variant of Lufthansa’s Airbus A350 does not even have a first class section. But have you seen the VIP edition available via Lufthansa Technik?

Described as a “haven of rest and comfort”, the custom interior spans over 2,900 square feet and aims to be a home away from home.

Family Flex Area

Located in the most favorable area in regard to noise and aircraft movement, the front part of the aircraft, the “Family Flex Area” facilitates a large and airy private space comparable to an expensive hotel suite. A multi-functional and flexible cabin awaits you, providing luxuriant space for you to enjoy quality time with family and friends or relax any way you want. An office within this area focuses on private conversations or interactive video conferencing, allowing the VIP to place himself in the midst of his staff whenever required.

Guest lounge and dining

The guest lounge entertains with a cinema size screen and offers a new lighting approach. In Lufthansa Technik’s patent pending new “Living Lining” concept ceilings and walls themselves turn into lighting elements. “Welcome Home” also sets new standards in regard to healthy on board food preparation. Lufthansa Technik’s new induction platform has been integrated and allows for fresh food cooking on board.

Master bedroom

The room with the highest level of privacy, this is your personal hideaway for peaceful dreams and relaxing sleep. Together with a lavish ensuite bathroom, the exclusive sleeping area is located in the forward cabin section, which is the quietest and the one with the least vibrations.

Spa and workout area

How about a personal spa above the clouds? A host of features is waiting to boost your well-being. This room invites you to take a deep breath and unwind. It welcomes you with a humidifying water feature and otherwise offers a relaxing steam bath, a massage shower, and a massage table that may also double as a passenger transport unit (PTU) if so required. Top sound quality and individual lighting let you immerse fully in a deeply relaxing surrounding.

With two Rolls-Royce Trent engines, this A350 can fly up to 12,400 miles—that’s enough to go even from London to Sydney nonstop. How much for this aircraft you might ask? Well, try $366 million—for the plane. You’ll pay more for the custom interior. You can learn more about the special aircraft here.

CONCLUSION

Surprisingly, this is not a joke. Rather, this is a serious schematic by Lufthansa Tecknik. And it if seems a bit outlandish, just consider how one order per year by a company looking for a private jet solution can keep a whole department in business.

What do you think of the A350 “Flying Penthouse”?

All this needs is a few Russian oligarchs or Chinese government officials to keep it going, then.

Might do well to add “concept” in there. Somewhere like the title

Who outside havens for oligarchies (Russia and the Middle East) is ordering these variants?

So LH is toying with becoming a latter-day Netjets in terms of private space. Oligarchs most likely will fly their own aircraft or those of their own country in any case. Having a few private suites up front of a new wide-body could work sort of like Emirates and Malaysian but no shower please..
