The Very Crowded Lufthasna Business Lounge In New York (JFK)

I feel like calling this report about the Lufthansa Business Lounge in New York JFK a “review” is a bit of a stretch, so let’s let’s just leave it as a report.

Lufthansa Business Lounge New York (JFK) – Decent Food, No Seats!

I entered the lounge at about 2:45 pm expecting to review it (I’ve previously reviewed the Senator Lounge on the second floor and the First Class Lounge on the third floor of this three-story lounge), but did not stay more than five minutes.

Why? It was beyond crowded. If you thought the Turkish Airlines Lounge was crowded, this was far worse. Every seat was taken…some folks were pacing around looking for seats. It was 45 minutes before the departure of LH401 to Frankfurt, so it made sense…this was the lounge for business class passengers, Miles & More Silver members, and Priority Pass cardholders…and folks took advantage of it (and there is their perogative…no judgment there).

Because Germans can get incredibly finicky about their faces being put on the internet (although there are no legal protections in the USA), I decided not to take pictures of the packed lounge…you’ll just have to take my word for it.

I did take pictures of the food, however, and I thought the spread was decent, including a number of hot and cold dishes like soups, salads, and sandwiches (even with German Laugenbrötchen)

a menu on a table

a group of bowls of food on ice

a table with food on it

a group of silver pots and cups of silverware on a table

a group of black bowls with food in them

two bowls of food on a table

a counter with candy and snacks
Pretzels and American candy…no Haribo gummy bears!

Alcohol was self-serve (one difference between this lounge and the Senator Lounge one level above is that the Senator Lounge has a staffed bar).

a group of bottles of alcohol

a group of bottles in a bucket

The lounge has bathrooms and showers, but they were packed too…

So use this post–this unique review if you will–as a warning that this lounge gets very crowded and no one is turned away…it’s just not worth going an hour before a Lufthansa flight unless you want to eat standing up.

I’d still come here and stand before waiting in the depressing gate areas of JFK Terminal 1.

“ Because Germans can get incredibly finicky about their faces being put on the internet”

As they work to rebuild their country to honor what they consider their greatest era from 33-45 they are cautious since most of the world still hates them for it, rightfully so. Other than Palestine obviously.

I’d like to note that Priority Pass customers are turned away during peek hours like this. It’s true, the space is not big enough for the operations at JFK Terminal One these days. One of the reasons to looking forward to our new home and brand new Lufthansa Group Lounge at Terminal 6.

I would have liked to read the reactions from German guests at the LH lounge when you showed them photos of a Polaris lounge restaurant and staffed bar.

The wine selection would be poor for a free happy hour at a Residence Inn on the side of the highway in Alabama, but everything else actually looks fairly decent. I see why people would show up despite the crowds.

Speaking of LH Lounges. Their main lounge for intercontinental departures out of FRA is a disgrace. The lounge is constantly filthy and the food served can be described as slop.

The furniture horrible and a lack of plugs for phones.
This was so disappointing considering this is LH’s main business class lounge.
Any LH operated lounge is on par with an AAAdmirals Club.
LH operated lounges are equivalent to their hard product-and this isn’t a compliment.

The food and drink options look decent enough.
