Review: Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich (MUC)

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 20, 2018June 1, 2020 8 Comments

Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge in Munich has one advantage over its counterpart in Frankfurt.

That’s a beautiful outdoor terrace that serves as a tranquil place to relax before your flight.

Other than that, though, it is just like the First Class Terminal and Lounges in Frankfurt. And that’s a very good thing.

There are two ways to enter the lounge. If you’re coming off a flight, you’ll be escorted upstairs from the car service depot several levels down. If coming in from an intercontinental flight, a dedicated passport control booth is available…and obligatory.

If you are starting in Terminal 2, just follow the signs for the first class lounge. You’ll find an elevator down a long hallway. Take that upstairs to the lounge (or in typical German fashion, eight flights of stairs).

Access is reserved for Lufthansa or SWISS same-day First Class passengers (ether arriving or departing in first class) or HON members of the Miles & More program.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Seating

The 20,000 square foot lounge is configured in an L-shape with plenty of seating. Throughout my two hour stay, the lounge never seemed to have more than a dozen people and at times far less.

Great views of the tarmac as well:

Also available: newspapers, a printer, and workstations.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Dining

The lounge features a full buffet as well as an a la carte menu. The lunch/dinner buffet is expansive and includes appetizers, breads, salads, soups, hot items, vegetables, fruits, and desserts.

As usual when I am in a Lufthansa First Class lounge, I order a filet mignon. A few hours had passed since breakfast and I was ready for a light lunch. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the salad refreshing.

The highlight of the meal, however, was the cappuccino. It was perfect.

Here’s the full a la carte menu:

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Bar + Alcohol

To say this lounge has a wide selection of alcohol would be an understatement.

Near the buffet you’ll find a gin bar:

Also a schnapps bar:

And the full far (with barista):

And if that wasn’t enough, the buffet has alcohol as well:

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Restrooms + Showers

Restrooms plus showers are available. Two of the shower rooms have full tubs.

Not pictured: a pair of sleeping rooms with beds.

Rubber ducks are available upon request.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Service

Unlike in Frankfurt at the First Class Terminal, you are not assigned a particular agent who “watches over you” during your stay. Upon checking in, I was told to report back at 3:05p for boarding for my Zurich flgiht.

But upon finding a seat, an attendant immediately appeared and offered me my choice of beverage and a cold towel.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Cigar Room

While I did not see any “no smoking ” signs on the patio, I did not see any ashtrays either. But a smoking room is available behind the bar that features more drinks. Cigarettes and cigars, once free, are no longer even available for purchase inside the lounge.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge Munich Limousine Service

For those connecting from a remote gate or different terminal, complimentary car service is available to your aircraft. You’ll be escorted downstairs and into a waiting car or van.

CONCLUSION

This T2 satellite lounge is a better choice than the other first class lounge in Terminal 2 (also a good lounge, but not as sleek). It offers all the amenities I have come to expect from Lufthansa Ground Services and the excellent staff made my stay quite pleasant. This lounge earns high marks in my book.

Where’s the picture of this season’s rubber ducky? It’s not a complete report without one. 🙂

There is no Lufthansa First Class lounge in Terminal 1, as Lufthansa is not using this terminal. Both First Class lounges are in Terminal 2, the older in the main terminal, and the one you have reviewed in the new(ish) satellite terminal.

Thanks for the great report! So, when arriving from NAP , for example, in business class and connecting onward to LA X in F, they regularly send a car to take you to the lounge? Or is it only the case if you’re parked at a remote stand? Your report is ambiguous to me on that point.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
