I’m Giving Malaysia Airlines First Class Another Shot

I had to laugh when I read Lucky’s plan for his next trip. I had just checked in for the same flight hours before reading it. There’s no better way to get from Southeast Asia to Japan.

I’m talking about Malaysia Airlines, which is now running an A350-900 with new first class seating, between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Tokyo (NRT). The cost for this 7hr, 10min  journey is only 40,000 AA miles…an incredible value. You can even add on a connecting flight within the region at no extra miles, which I did from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Award space is excellent.

My next “classic” trip report will include reviews of ANA, JAL, and Malaysia Airlines in first class. The MH flight I’ll review is from Kuala Lumpur to London aboard the A380. Flying the A350 will allow for a contrast between the two products. The A350 has only four seats in first class compared to eight on the A380. These suites have closing doors.

This trip will also give me a chance to check out the recently-renovated Golden Lounge in Kuala Lumpur (KUL). I’m excited to see how Malaysia Airlines has transformed it since my last visit.

CONCLUSION

While the best mileage redemptions are often rather boring, there is great fun in cheap “aspirational” redemptions like this one. I’m looking forward to sampling Malaysia Airlines First Class aboard the A350! I plan to have initial impressions tomorrow and a trip report up by the end of the week.

Given that JAL and ANA are notorious for keeping their cabins warm, I was wondering: if you’re uncomfortably hot when it’s time to sleep, do you request they cool it down? If so, how do they respond? If not, do you think you could try? 🙂 I’m one of those people who can’t sleep when it’s too warm, and I’ve read a lot of reviews commenting on how they woke up in a sweat. I wouldn’t handle that well at all.
