A nurse onboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Pittsburgh to Orlando saved the life on an infant passenger who had stopped breathing.

Infant Emergency Onboard

Thursday night was anything but routine for passengers on Spirit Airlines flight NK 637 from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Orlando, Florida. Approximately 30 minutes into the flight, an infant stopped breathing. A nurse, Tamara Panzino, was alerted to the concern and came forward to help revive the child.

“Panzino said she quickly reacted to the medical emergency on the aircraft by massaging the baby’s chest and legs. Soon after, the baby was heard breathing again, much to the relief of her terrified parents.” The Daily Mail

An Orlando television meteorologist was onboard and captured footage of the event that purportedly took place just a few rows from his seat.

The 20-year veteran nurse said, “When you have to step forward and do what’s right, you do it. It was just a happy story, and it made me feel really good.”

The flight did not have to divert to nearby Charlotte, North Carolina, and instead arrived at its destination in Orlando as expected.

Finally, Some Good News

Over the last few years, bad news on airplanes has filled our feeds. The pandemic seemed to exasperate (though not originate) the issues of passenger behavior on aircraft, and bad behavior of crews occasionally as well. These sorts of things happen in the air, just as they do on the ground, but thanks to Panzino and quick actions, not only is there a happy ending to what could have been a tragic story, but finally some good news from a passenger incident standpoint.

For the first time in a long time, I am so glad someone had their camera filming from an airline seat.

Conclusion

Panzino acted quickly, and properly, and was able to get the child breathing again. It’s so good to see positive news and what a relief for the parents and passengers onboard. It’s times like these that restore my faith in humanity.
