Those who cannot drink cow milk or prefer a vegan alternative can now order Oatly oat milk with their coffee or tea on all SWISS flights.
Oat Milk Now Available On SWISS
In 2023, SWISS introduced The Oatly Caffè Latte to its buy onboard “SWISS Saveurs” menu. Now, SWISS is rolling out Oatly milk on all flights, both shorthaul and longhaul, and it is available now:
Regular readers know I am a coffee aficionado (or at least an aspiring one), but I have never been able to get on the oat milk bandwagon. I know that milk alternatives have come a long way from the days of soy milk or almond milk, but oat milk tastes like cardboard to me…it’s like eating margarine or decaffeinated coffee…a very poor substitute for the real thing (I cannot even tolerate UHT milk, which I find almost as bad as oat milk…). Here in California, I buy Strauss Farms or Clover Milk only…not all milk is created equal!
So while you won’t catch me ordering oat milk on SWISS, I am happy to see it available on SWISS for those who like it…
Are you fan of oat milk with your coffee?

When they spill Oat milk on a coat , and wring out the coat , it becomes Coat milk .
Oatly has made some people some serious money, but I am not sure if it’s even profitable at this point. I really don’t see what makes Oatly more special than that it has a brand worth something for now. Longer term, it’s just an input and who really can find a big difference in the taste of a brand milk vs a generic milk? Much the same for oat milks.
That said, I also know some people who have made some money in branded water. Thinking of stuff like “Liquid Death”. The joke is on the consumers while some of the early investors go laughing all the way to the bank and back on the backs of later investors and consumers into brands for the sake of brands.
Matthew stayed at a hotel pretty much around the corner from Oatly HQ.
I miss Malmo!
No thanks. People think Oatly is simply pressed oats, right? Good luck with that. It is ultra highly processed and contains rapeseed oil as emulsifier and its process turns starches into maltose which is basically sugar that causes an increase in blood glucose. There is absolutely nothing healthy about it but vegans think they are saving the planet.
You are correct. With carbs, added oil and thickening gum it’s surprising so many like it.
I am of the school of water being best. Why drink calories. We already find that relative calorie deprivation seems to work wonders to extend the lifespan of mice, and it is pretty clear that thinner people seem to live longer and healthier than obese people with an otherwise similar background. Processed food and drinks seem less than ideal from a health perspective. But a lot of what we consume has very little to do with healthy lifestyle choices and is more about nearer-term self-gratification. Now it’s time for me to go get myself some more in-flight radiation. 😀
Just curious, so do you drink no coffee/tea/juice/alcohol?
I agree with GUWonder. Generally no liquid calories. I drink only water, sugarless (not sweet) Jamu (Indonesian herbal concoction), black coffee and tea with nothing added, with the exception of an occasional glass of wine or whiskey. Definitely no juices, milk or fake milk.
What I prefer to avoid and what I avoid entirely are somewhat different. I have such a weakness for pomegranate that I sometimes drink pomegranate juice. Otherwise no juice for me. I have even sort of sidelined some of my old tea habit, and I do tea with minimal calories added. My alcohol intake is mainly limited to the residual from the use of mouthwash sent down the drain. I don’t take or buy alcoholic beverages for my own consumption.
I tend to get addicted to things I like, so I try to avoid the things that I know won’t be good for me if I get addicted.
The relatives of mine who didn’t drink their calories have lived into their early to late 90s. The ones who did drink their calories would typically make it only into their mid-80s at most and have more serious health problems from their 70s. Water it is for me.
What about unprocessed juices?
Except for the occasional pomegranate juice, the fresh squeezed juices are also off my repertoire. Rather eat the fruit as whole and get the juice kick that way than drink anything beside water. I do have quite the weakness also for those calorie bombs that are Thai iced teas; but unless they are offered to me for free at a hotel or lounge I won’t even think of getting them.
At least Swiss went with Oatly. I’m the opposite of you Matthew, I regularly drink milk and oat is the only milk alternative I tolerate. I don’t like soy, almond, coconut or any of the others.
Within oat milk, my preference is for Oatly since I think it’s the closest acceptable substitute to dairy milk for me (at least the whole fat one). I’ve tried other brands and they range from yuck to passable, Oatly Full Fat is the only one I’ll actively buy if I don’t want dairy milk.
