Review: Park Hyatt Milan (Prestige Suite)

Matthew Klint Posted onMay 5, 2018May 5, 2018 2 Comments

Yesterday I wrote about my recent stay at the Park Hyatt Milan. This post focuses on my upgrade to a Prestige Suite.

First, this is not a typical suite upgrade: this is a “luxury” suite and I was quite fortunate the hotel was quite generous. Here’s how it happened: when I checked in I was told that no upgrades were available. I remarked that there were junior suites (standard Globalist upgrade) available on the website. The agent appeared puzzled, reiterating that all suites were full.

But another colleague leaned over and the two had a discussion in Italian. With a smile on her face, the first agent informed me that I would have a “very beautiful suite” in a few hours…but with a catch. The water would be lukewarm.

Sold.

First, the standard room or even a deluxe room were too small for my colleague and me and I did not want to spring for a second room. Second, the spa locker room had an amazing shower. Although not ideal, I’d take that with a suite over a small room.

Turns out, by the way, that the water issue was resolved and I was able to take a shower in the room.

At 4:30pm, our room became available: Room 516.

The room was spacious and beautiful. It had a large living room with a couch, several chairs, and a desk.

Adjacent to the living room was a guest bathroom with only a toilet and sink:

Coffee, tea, and bottled water were available and refilled twice daily:

Shortly after settling in, the doorbell rang and a bottle of red wine and some canapés were dropped off:

While I offered the bedroom to my colleague, he insisted on sleeping on a rollaway bed in the living room. I had the bedroom, which was seemed larger than the entire standard room were were in earlier.

The bathroom was also very large, with a walk-in closet, two sinks, a tub, and walk-in shower. The suite had full-size bottles of soap, shampoo, and conditioner that I would have taken if we were not traveling with hand baggage only.

CONCLUSION

This was a glorious upgrade at one of my favorite Hyatt properties. Not only was the room beautiful to relax in, but its comfort helped us to be productive.

Looks beautiful but also looks like they tried to squeeze too much into the bathroom. Tub seems in odd place… could’ve just gone with bigger shower. And the way the sinks are angled, is it even possible for two people to use them at the same time?

Not big complaints, just curious. Thanks!

The suite looks lovely but I’m not sure that I prefer it over the ‘standard’ DSU/TSU upgrade, a junior suite with one ( very ) large room with the bed positioned in a semi-;closed area at one end. I’ve had the same room type on 2 stays and very much enjoyed it. Also the bathroom in the ‘junior’ appears to be better, certainly larger, than this one.
The toiletries , Laura someone, are a bit on the strong scent side albeit very smooth and creamy.
IMO this is a fantastic hotel.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
