We are always trying out new luggage and found the Vocier C38 Carry-on Luggage.

Flying as much as Matthew, Carly, Lucy, and I do require different tools for different trips. Luggage is an important part of that process and we are always experimenting with new pieces. We had a chance to try the Vocier C38, a more formal approach to a short-trip carry-on.

Rolling

Unlike other carry-ons who have switched to omnidirectional wheels, the C38 provides a traditional tilt-and-roll movement. Pegs on the bottom hold the piece in place when at rest as opposed to it rolling away at will. All carry-ons had this feature in the past, but now it’s something a traveller needs to seek out. For someone who has used cases with omnidirectional wheels for the last few years, I found the tilt-and-roll approach to be a welcome change and especially helpful while stationary.

Another handy feature, especially those travelling internationally, is a passport compartment built into the handle. When the handle is secured, it stays locked away inside the case, when rolling, it’s ready for quick presentation at checkin, security, and border controls.

Hanging

The C38 is very unique from other carry-ons. A hook in the top of the piece allows travellers to hang the case from a clothes rack in a closet. This is helpful for suits and pressed items that live in the outer shell, but there is an additional unique feature. When hanging the bag, the bottom of the bag, a popout section that holds other clothing items remains flat and can be used as a dresser drawer.

This feature allows users to quickly establish themselves in a hotel room upon arrival without completely unpacking.

Size

Compliant with both US and European airline standards, the C38 is large enough to store four full days of clothing as well as a suit, shoes and a dopp kit.

For my particular trip, I needed a suit and several days of casual clothes. I was able to pack everything in the bag without folding my suit or packing anything additional in another bag.

Value

The C38 is a mid-priced carry-on in the luxury space. At $678, it’s more expensive than lower end carry-ons but less than the likes of ultra-luxury products on the market. The C38 is currently on sale for $450 which makes it a great value for those who frequently travel with formal business attire.

Conclusion

The Vocier C38 carry-on luggage is perfect for short business trips where a suit or pressed collared shirt is required. I loved the popout for storage and handle passport holder. For short, domestic, casual trips the case has the benefit of size, tilt-and-roll as well as an easy-access slot for an external battery.

What do you think? Have you tried the Vocier C38?

Do you have a picture of it hanging from the closet. How durable is the hook if it were to hang with a full load out?

I don’t have a photo of it hanging but I can attest that my bag was over 40 lbs and hung in the closet with ease.

Why do people pack their shoes without putting them inside bags? They are filthy. Same with putting luggage on top of beds for packing. Disgusting. Wearing shoes in your home, especially if it is carpeted. Disgusting. Poor hygiene promotes the spread of disease.

This bag looks like it wastes space and the wheels are quite small. I think it is hard to beat a Tumi Alpha 2-wheeled carry on for versatility and durability.

I have tried Vocier and was very disappointed. I waited three months for a replacement part for my C-38 carry-on and was informed by Vocier to do my own repair and to watch a YouTube video on how to do the repair. Their website touts their exceptional customer service. Informing a customer to self-repair an expensive piece of luggage versus Vocier completing the repair was a huge disappointment.

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
