The Sheraton Milan Malpensa is an extremely convenient hotel to spend the night in before your early flight out MXP.
After arriving late in the evening on Ryanair and with an Air Italy flight the following afternoon, I opted to spend the night at the most convenient airport hotel. Attached to Terminal 1, the hotel was just a short walk from baggage claim (airport signage clearly direct you to the hotel entrance).
Although I hold Marriott Platinum status, I was not upgraded to a larger room (unless a parking lot view is considered an upgrade). No big deal, but typical Bonvoy treatment. My rate included a full breakfast.
Sheraton Milan Malpensa Guest Room
I didn’t mind the lack of an upgrade because the room was spacious. With light streaming into the room, a comfortable easy chair, and nice bedding the room was perfect to sleep and work over the next 15 hours.
The idea of powdered coffee in Italy is anathema, but let not your heart be troubled, as the hotel has great coffee available in both restaurants. Still a tragic missed opportunity…
It was a very warm day outside, but the air conditioning in the room worked well.
Meanwhile, the restroom was also large, featured a bidet (I still cannot get used to those), and bath products from “le grand basin”.
Oh yes, and the maid failed to clean the hair from the shower…
Maybe she should have cleaned that instead of walking in on me naked…

Sheraton Milan Malpensa Dining
When you’re tried after a day of flying, the last thing you want to do it go out to dinner. But this hotel marks up the room service menu so I went downstairs and ate in Il Canneto Restaurant, the hotel’s main restaurant.
I ordered Risotto Milanese followed by Branzino (sea bass). Honestly, I’ve had much, much better. But considering it was an airport hotel, it did the trick. The bread was a huge disappointment.
Monterosa Bar is located across the hall and offers drinks, coffee, and more casual fare (like pizza):
I returned to Il Canneto for breakfast in the morning and enjoyed an elaborate buffet breakfast and excellent coffee.
I also put my new orange juice trick to the test. The first time I spent 7EUR for a glass of orange juice. My second visit, I just made it myself…

Sheraton Milan Malpensa Fitness + Pool + Spa
The pool is free, but the swim cap will cost you…5EUR. Bring your own if you want to swim for free. If you want to use the wellness area (sauna and steam bath), it will cost you 10EUR. Talk about nickel and diming and the wellness area is in a state of disrepair. Paint is cracked and the wood in sauna is well beyond prime.
Oh yes, signs remind you that Italy is not Germnay. Clothes must be worn in the sauna and steam bath…
In keeping with the decorum and decency is required (sic) to cover the private parts with the cloth that is made available or wear your costume.
The fitness center is complimentary. Best to use it in the afternoon or evening, because it was very crowded when I used it in the morning.
CONCLUSION
The location of this hotel is truly outstanding. So is the coffee with breakfast. Everything else is just nel solito (average). But location, location, location. I’ve already returned to this hotel and will be returning again.
I struggle to think of too many brands (in any industry) with a quality gap as wide as Sheraton in the US vs. OUS
I don’t recall ever getting a decent a la carte meal in an airport hotel. For a long time now I’ve chosen the buffet, where available, or snack menu. That Risotto doesn’t look good.
May I suggest you mention the miles used / price paid for your future stays/flights. This helps get a better perspective and understand whether or not the value for money has been good or not.
Cheers
Will do. Was $120.
Agree, for an airport hotel, its pretty darn good. I always stay here when I have a morning departure the next day. Also, their lounge is really nice for breakfast and dinner (full meals and service).
This is also a perfect example of Sheraton’s wide degree of standards from within the US vs. outside – always unpredictable.
Why the $2 service charge for the sea bass? Hotels are crazy with the add on fees. Great review I have reservations here soon and several possible business meetings set up for this hotel next year. Doesn’t look too bad over all.
