Review: Star Alliance Lounge Amsterdam (AMS)

I realized when publishing my review of the Aspire Lounge Amsterdam yesterday that I had a Star Alliance Lounge review from AMS that I had not previously published. This is from a pre-pandemic visit and do note the lounge is currently closed, but hopefully it will re-open soon.

Star Alliance Lounge Amsterdam Review

Location + Hours + Access

This airport lounge is located in Terminal 2 in the Schengen departures area. Follow the signs to “Airline Lounge 27” (no idea why Amsterdam Schiphol does it this way…), take the escalators or elevator upstairs to Level 2 (you’ll go through a shopping area), then take the stairs or elevator up to Level 3.

You’ll find the lounge is adjacent to the Aspire Lounge. Daily hours of operation are from 5:30am to 9:00pm. Again, note the lounge is closed temporarily due to the pandemic.

In order to enter, you will need a boarding pass for a Star Alliance flight departing AMS as well as a Star Alliance Gold card or a business/first class ticket. United Club or Air Canada Maple Leaf Club members may also use their membership to access this lounge. This is not a Priority Pass lounge.

Tip: If you are flying to a non-Schengen country, like the United States, use this lounge before entering passport control and stamping out of the Netherlands. Give yourself 10-15 minutes to clear immigration, just in case. While Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is generally a great airport in terms of ease of transit, lines occasionally do back up.

Seating

The lounge includes a seating area on the left side running the length of the lounge, featuring clusters of chairs facing one another. In the rear of the lounge is a large dining room table with several chairs and booths intended for solo travelers or couples. There is also plenty of seating around the buffet in the eating area.

Food + Drink

The self-service buffet may be a casualty of the pandemic, but I tend to think it will return. Breakfast selection included:

  • pancakes
  • pastries
  • cereals
  • porridge
  • biscuits + gravy
  • sliced meats
  • sliced cheeses
  • cucumbers + tomatoes
  • yogurt
  • fruit

There was also a junk food in a separate area with:

A wide variety of self-service hard liquor was available as well as a Heineken beer tap and four types of wine (two red, two white). Coffee, tea, juice, and water rounded out the beverage selection. It does appear the self-serve bar area becomes a serviced bar later in the day.

Restrooms

While restrooms are spacious and clean, no showers are available.

CONCLUSION

I found this lounge very comfortable and more stylish than the Aspire Lounge next-door or the KLM Lounge nearby. Some eggs would have been nice, but overall this was a lounge that I look forward to visiting again. If you are a business class passenger on a Star Alliance airline or Star Alliance Gold member, take advantage of great lounge at Schiphol.

Just not a fan of using a lounge before security/passport control/immigration/whatever. When I fly, I only want to be airside.

@S, this very much is an airside lounge. A half-decent contract lounge (probably also Aspire) is available for non-Schengen pax, I was given access to it flying TK last year.

I just saw the other post and realised Matthew’s recent review was of the non-Schengen Aspire lounge!

In any event, if you are flying the likes of TK and are entitled to lounge access, you may use either, or both, the *A and Aspire lounges.

Worst lounge I have ever had the misfortune to visit! Food choices are terrible, seats are uncomfortable & very few amenities available! Will avoid flying into AMS on United in the future!
