Star Alliance Lost Half Its Lounges In London Heathrow

Two of the four Star Alliance lounges in London Heathrow (LHR) Terminal 2 are currently closed for refurbishment. That still leaves two options, but prepare for crowds and for the inconvenience, especially if you are traveling out of the “A” gate area.

Air Canada + Lufthansa Lounges Currently Closed In LHR T2

SAS has left Star Alliance but still operates out of Terminal 2 in LHR. After arriving from JFK on Virgin Atlantic and transferring from T3 to T2, I obtained my boarding pass at the SAS transfer counter and asked about the lounge…I had heard that SAS still directed its premium cabin and status passengers to the Lufthansa lounge. But right now SAS is using the Plaza Premium Lounge (a lounge I honestly loathe since it’s always a hardship to find a seat there).

Instead of visiting that lounge, we took a walk around the terminal and found that both the Lufthansa and Air Canada lounges are currently closed for refurbishments.

  • The Air Canada Lounge is set to reopen in mid-December 2024
  • The Lufthansa Lounge is set to reopen in mid-January 2025

The Singapore Airlines lounge has re-opened (I even took a quick look inside, just to survey the changes – that review is coming next) and the United Club remains open. The Singapore SilverKris lounge was quite crowded at 8:00 am…so was the United Club (I just took a peak in to say hello to a friend there).

CONCLUSION

Both the Lufthansa and Air Canada Lounges are currently closed at LHR Terminal 2.

While these closures are temporary, keep in mind that the Singapore and United lounges will be crowded over the next 30-60 days.

Considering those are the 2 weaker *alliance lounges at LHR, this could be a good thing in the long run.

Nice to hear of the remodel of both lounges. This is only good news. Just inconvenient for the time being.

I hate click bait articles. How about saying they were closed for refurbishment not lost them. That’s purposely misleading, do better…

      I 100% agree! So misleading!
