Confession time. When I was a kid, I used to stand outside this lounge, flag down a person coming in, and ask to be guested in. Yes, that’s my memory of the B6 United Club at Chicago O’Hare. Much has changed…but I still smile at that memory.
I remember the first time I walked here. It was March 2006. My brother and I were traveling to Providence, Rhode Island and we got some guy to guest us into what was then called the Red Carpet Club. I recall the restroom at the time. It had red marble. I liked it. I remember there was an ashtray above every urinal.
Anyway, much has changed. The lounge has been remodeled. The red marble and ashtrays are gone. Now this Club looks like most other domestic United clubs.
United Club Chicago ORD B6 Review
Location + Hours + Access
Located across from gate B6, this lounge is currently open from 5:45am to 6:45pm.
Access is reserved for United Club members, Chase United Club Visa holders, Star Alliance Gold travelers, and international business or first class passengers traveling on any Star Alliance flight.
Furthermore, one-time passes from Chase are accepted or can be purchased for $59. Note that if you hold a Star Alliance Gold card from United Airlines (Premier Gold or higher), you can only access the lounge when traveling in conjunction with an international itinerary.
Those who have a Star Gold card from other programs can use the lounge when traveling on any Star Alliance flight in any class of service. Also note that from ORD, United does not give premium cabin passengers access on domestic flights without status.
Global Services passengers are also allowed complimentary entrance.
Seating
You enter the lounge on the departure level, check-in with reception, then take an escalator upstairs to what is actually a large club (17,435 square feet). You’ll find plenty of seating—either chairs or long tables with bar-type chairs.
Phone Booths
Whenever I am in this lounge, I make a beeline for the phone booths, located behind the smaller buffet. As you step off the escalator, walk straight, then turn right and you’ll see four of these. It’s a perfect place to be left alone and be able to have telephone conversations without disturbing others.
Food + Drink
Like other United Clubs during the pandemic, food and drink selections are limited and everything is pre-packaged. Selections included:
- instant noodle soup
- pita chips
- hummus
- pretzels
- chips + salsa
- carrots
- string cheese
- potato/corn chips
- oranges
- bananas
- apples
- trail mix
- chocolate-covered pretzels
The bar was fully operational – menu here.
Restrooms
Restrooms are available and were clean. No showers are available.
CONCLUSION
This United Club bring back many memories. While amenities are limited, it offers clean restrooms, flight help, a decent selection of packaged snacks, and fast internet. Head to the phone booths for a bit of privacy.

How successful were you at being guested in lol?
Quite honestly, always!
It’s amazing how similar design-wise and decor-wise most generic airline lounges and hotel club lounges are these days. Even the new Amtrak lounge in the newly built train hall in New York looks like a cross between a Marriott M Club and a Delta lounge.
I’m also amazed at how cheap United is with the complimentary wine. Delta’s complimentary wine selections are the greatest, but the variety blows United away.
Sucks that you have to pay for decent beer & spirits compared to say DL, but the Revolution $5 beers are solid, and they make a quality $8 Manhattan at least.
Matthew, worth noting too that this was a pilot club pre-pandemic for “better” hot buffet food…think they cheapened out (shocker!) and didn’t roll it out wider, but the food was still a lot better than trash clubs like EWR.
This makes me think about the old Flyertalk page with folks who were willing to guest others in to the RCC. Always active, but always kept short by the mods.
And the FT mileage run brag board after the entrance & to the right in LAX T7. Oh boy, the ’00’s and the early ’10’s.
It looks very good for a United Club in the US. 100x better than the holes at IAD.
This may be the nicest United lounge in the U.S. I enjoy the lounge chairs near the bar that overlook the concourse, they make for great people-watching.
Been in this one many times, as it’s my home airport. I’d say it’s very good for a domestic lounge – and better than any of the other United Club locations at ORD. However, they are skimpier on the food than they used to be. I recall them offering up complimentary huevos rancheros for breakfast a few years ago. Nothing like that now.
One thing I love about this particular lounge: the artwork featuring vintage UA aircraft. I find it really cool, particularly the 707.
It looks nicer than I recall, but I’m wondering if that’s only ’cause it’s empty and clean.
As far as best domestic lounges in the US go, however, it still doesn’t touch the LAX lounge.

*best domestic lounges in the UA system … I can’t speak to other carriers’ lounges.
It’s a nice club, and much more spacious than the C concourse which still remains closed. And only a 10 minute walk to the furthest gate in C. This club is great for people watching from the second level, whereas the Denver clubs give great vistas of airplanes. Each one has its advantages.
Do you recommend this lounge over the B18 United Club for 5 adults on a 2-hour visit?
I’d say the two lounges are a wash…both better than the C or F lounges ar ORD.
Thanks! I’m a big fan of the blog.
I passed by here about a week ago. Hot food was being served again, such as hot dog. but significantly crowded and noisy so that was a bit unnerving. Also made taking photos impossible…
I have some fresh photos – will update this post. I love the Chicago-style hot dogs!
