New World of Hyatt Promotion – Worthwhile?

First World of Hyatt Promo

Is the new World of Hyatt promo worth pursuing?

World of Hyatt’s first promo is a simple one: earn double points on all stays between April 1 – June 30, 2017. One catch: your first stay doesn’t count. You can register here.

World of Hyatt members earn five base points per dollar spent at Hyatt properties. With this promo, members will earn 10 points per dollar starting on their second stay. Keep in mind if you have elite status in the World of Hyatt program you also earn these additional points–

  • Discoverist members – 10% bonus on base points (so 10.5 points / $)
  • Explorist members – 20% bonus on base points (so 11 points / $)
  • Globalist members – 30% bonus on base points (so 11.5 points / $)

Note the bonus is calculated off the five points dollar base, not the 10 points per dollar promo.

Since I’m trying to prequalify for Hyatt Globalist status this year, I am locked into staying in Hyatts, so any promo I will use. This promo makes up a bit for the lack of 1,000 bonus points on check-in that is sadly no longer part of the World of Hyatt.

But let’s not kid ourselves: if you are on the fence or not particularly loyal, this is no Faster Free Nights promotion. Depending upon how much you value Hyatt points this is like getting a 5-10% discount on your stay. Sure, we’ll take it, but if you’re a Starwood or Hilton person you’re not going to want to jump ship for this one.
