Aeroplan’s Annoying “Time Travel” Issue…

a galaxy in space with stars

I needed a last-minute ticket on Aeroplan last night, but apparently Aeroplan lives in another dimension of time and space.

It was 6:30 P.M. PT, therefore still 31 October in all parts of Canada. But when I tired to book a same-day ticket, here is the error message I received:

I was after midnight Zulu time. Maybe that was it? The rules state that travel can be made up to two hours prior to departure. This was for a flight in four hours:

Sometimes I wonder if Aeroplan reduces the functionally of its website because it now has an overstaffed call center. I love that hold times are virtually a thing of the past on Aeroplan, but I bet that C$30/ticket booking fee adds up and helps to justify many of the jobs.

I also thought it might be my computer and manually adjusted the date back one day. That did not do the trick.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking this.

In any case, a call to Aeroplan…and C$30…solved the problem.

CONCLUSION

Aeroplan’s website is annoying. I’m thankful call center agents are almost always well-trained, courteous, and efficient, but Aeroplan could certainly make its website a bit easier to book awards on it…if it wanted to.

Have you run into the same issue with booking an Aeroplan award?

Yeah…and all things considered they do make it pretty easy. Their iPhone app on the other hand is MISSSERABLE

Why did you pay the fee if you couldn’t otherwise self book?

      Because they don’t waive fees.

If you have Diamond status with Aeroplan they will waive the fee as a one-time courtesy as long as they can duplicate the problem. That’s been my experience for the last 3 years.

BTW… Looking forward to your SWISS update!
