A TikTok “evangelist” was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight after standing in the aisle and preaching to passengers during a ground delay. She now claims she is being persecuted for sharing the gospel. As a Christian, I find that argument deeply unpersuasive.
Alaska Airlines Removes TikTok “Evangelist” After Impromptu Mid-Aisle Sermon, Then Bans Her
A self-proclaimed evangelist named Whitney Lynn was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight at Orlando International Airport after standing in the aisle and delivering an unsolicited sermon to the entire cabin. The aircraft was apparently delayed on the ground when Lynn decided that the captive audience represented an opportunity.
She began by acknowledging the frustration of the delay, then told passengers that God’s timing was perfect and suggested that perhaps He was protecting them from danger.
She continued:
“Jesus Christ loves you so much that he died on the cross for your sins. He rose again in three days. He’s alive, and he’s the one true God.”
She then warned about death, hell, repentance, and the return of Christ before praying over the flight.
As a Christian, I share the historic faith she invoked, but that does not mean an aircraft cabin is an appropriate place to impose it upon everyone else nor do I subscribe to her theatrical method or self-serving claims of persecution.
This Was Not Christian Persecution
Flight attendants did not interrupt Lynn during the sermon, but Alaska ultimately removed her from the aircraft. She was later informed that her ability to travel on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air had been placed on hold while the airline investigated the incident.
Lynn responded by calling the episode “spiritual warfare.”
She said demons tremble at the name of Jesus, claimed Christians can no longer speak openly, and suggested she was being persecuted for preaching the gospel.
No.
Persecution is imprisonment, violence, loss of livelihood, or state punishment because of one’s faith.
Being removed from a privately operated aircraft after standing in the aisle and addressing passengers who did not ask to participate is not persecution. Nor does the First Amendment require Alaska Airlines to provide her with a pulpit. The Constitution restricts government action. It does not give passengers an unrestricted right to conduct a sermon aboard a commercial aircraft.

I want to encourage you: don’t you dare let anyone intimidate you. Don’t you dare stop preaching the gospel. Even if you’re called out by the police or kicked out of somewhere, all the more, let your voice be heard. These are the days to rise up, not shrink back. I believe a time is coming when many will face persecution for preaching the gospel. It’s already happening in other countries, where people are being imprisoned and even killed for the sake of Jesus Christ. So don’t be silent. Rise up. Grow in boldness and power, because the same resurrection power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead lives in you. I believe in every one of you. A Captive Cabin Is Not A Church
Evangelism requires courage, but it also requires judgment.
Passengers could not simply walk away. They were seated inside an aircraft, waiting to depart, while a stranger stood over them and delivered a religious message.
Had she stood in the aisle to lecture everyone about abortion rights, Donald Trump, climate change, Islam, atheism, or LGBTQ issues, I would have found that equally inappropriate.
The problem was commandeered the cabin, not that she mentioned Jesus.
There are countless appropriate ways to share the Christian faith: through personal conversation, hospitality, preaching in public spaces where people can leave, serving others, answering questions, or simply living in a manner that reflects Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “Always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” Implied in that is that you are first asked and it is done tactfully and graciously.
Turning an airline delay into content for a TikTok series called “Kicked Off the Plane for Preaching the Gospel” strikes me as far more self-promotional than sacrificial.
Alaska was right to remove her. Whether a permanent ban is warranted may depend upon her prior conduct and how she behaved after being asked to leave. Christians should be careful not to cheapen the word “persecution” by applying it whenever poor judgment produces predictable consequences.
CONCLUSION
Whitney Lynn says she was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight because she preached about Jesus.
That is not quite right.
She was removed after standing in the aisle and delivering an unsolicited sermon to a captive cabin during a delay.
I share her Christian faith. I affirm the gospel she attempted to proclaim. But the setting, method, and subsequent self-dramatization were badly misguided.
Boldness without wisdom is not faithfulness.
Alaska Airlines did not silence Christianity. It restored order to an aircraft cabin.

She is being persecuted because she’s a rude, attention-seeking asshole, not because of any specific religious views.
Stop giving these idiots the attention they crave.
She is not being persecuted at all. She is being held accountable for her antisocial behavior.
Unfortunately, people listen to her and think all Christians are the same, so I feel the need to speak out to defend how I decipher the mystery of the faith.

These kind of Christians, especially the ones with the “crazy eyes” (she qualifies, tell me you don’t see that Joel Osteen “twinkle”) drive me nuts. I’m a Catholic and when I am aboard a plane you’ll likely see me pray (silently in my seat) and perhaps reading the Bible or some book about theology or Church history. One of the key virtues that people often ignore is prudence. Is it a prudent choice to use that moment (everyone is stuck on a metal tube in tight quarters) to evangelize in that way? What is the likelihood that your course of action will lead to the salvation of souls? This was to get clicks. She was disruptive, inconsiderate, rude, and disobeying instructions. Alaska is fully in the right.
She is doing the work of Satan. Maybe it’s similar like Trump claiming to be a conservative.
There is a possibility that she has mental illness.

I am a person of deep Christian faith. A former member of the LDS Church and I have no religious affiliation. I find this behavior so incredibly inapropriate and it serves only to piss off the very people that they are trying to reach.
I believe in keeping ones faith to ones self unless asked on a personal one on one level.

This happens all the time on busses in the Philippines. However it is quickly followed up by donation requests.
I wish BART would eject performers who perform dances with loud boomboxes and solicit for tips on the moving train. Perhaps a literal ejection chute on the plane and train would suffice. After all, God will embrace her and guide her safely to somewhere, no plane needed.
